BBC Radio Suffolk Agree New Commentary Deal Wednesday, 5th Aug 2015 17:18
BBC Radio Suffolk has agreed a new commentary deal with the club which will see them cover Town games home and away until the end of the 2017/18 campaign.
Brenner Woolley will continue his role as commentator with regular summariser Mick Mills joining him at Brentford for the season opener at Griffin Park on Saturday (KO 3pm).
Charlotte Spackman, Radio Suffolk's assistant editor, said: "This is great news for our listeners who follow the fortunes of Ipswich Town on BBC Radio Suffolk. It means more great commentary on every game, interviews and analysis."
Town MD Ian Milne added: "We are very pleased to continue our long relationship with BBC Radio Suffolk. We will continue to increase our contribution to the shows presented by Mark Murphy, Etholle George and Brenner Woolley."
Saturday sees the return of Life’s a Pitch with Mark Murphy, Kevin Beattie, Tractorboy and TWTD’s Phil Ham.
The show, which will be live from Portman Road when the Blues are at home, will be in its regular noon to 2pm slot throughout the season, although this Saturday it will end at 1pm and will be followed by a documentary, Mick McCarthy: In His Own Words, which is also being broadcast on Friday at 4pm.

Very good news, just wish they had the rights to stream it online, as a lot of us don't live on Suffolk

@Blue_Again: Pretty much the only reason why I'm still subscribed to Ipswich Player. It's fine, when it works. When it doesn't you end up relying on the opposition's commentary or just get nothing at all.

Just have to switch off when tractorboy comes on, don't need to hear his opinion!

although I listen to the commentary. I agree that we need access to listen online. for people who support itfc overseas. I know mick mills will forever be an Ipswich legend, I think sometimes radio Suffolk needs to look to other co-comintators. I listen to both Brenner and mick and hearing the sound in their voice sometimes I cant tell whether we have scored or the opposition. always enjoyed terry baxter always remember his commentary for Wembley play off final now that sounded like he showed passion. just my opinion

I know Brenner woolley has to come across as being un-biased but I often get the impression he seems to be more excited when the other team scores than when we do!!! As town fans we don't want to hear shouting and screaming, when the opposition scores

This is excellent news. Radio Suffolk's coverage is first class and in my opinion Brenner is much under rated as a commentator. Roll on Saturday!

I didn't know Brenner was from Botesdale...

People always say that Jimmy but he's always excited for Town. We were spoilt with Terry Baxter, that's trouble.

Good in many respects but- accepting he was a legend - Mick Mills is as dull, boring and repetitive as its is possible to be. He a true exponent of the theory of why say 10 words when a 110 will do. Also no more Frank from Holland. He does my head in as well. Opinions of those actually at the games plse.

Mick Mills is not there to entertain but to inform, and he is usually very astute.

Great news - I love the BBC Suffolk coverage. Just a shame, as others have said, that I have to pay to listen to it just because I live in London (Like I wasn't already paying enough in this ridiculous city!)

I remember writing to Radio Suffolk when Brenner first started, must be about ten years ago at least;saying how I thought he was a vast improvement on previous commentator, think also said about Micks voice which of course he cant help.Still 1 out of 2 aint bad. He was England Captain and made over 700 appearances for club(think may be record?);so mustn't be too hard on him,but nice to have a change sometimes.Liked Ray Crawford for his enthusiasm and Scowie and Alex ok also;but glad Mr Woolley is being retained,a Newcastke supporting Geordie!

I agree jimmy86 I listen when I work night shifts and sometimes, I don't realise we have scored, sometimes its a bit hit and miss, enough talk of radio cant wait till Saturday

Online rights are separate from radio broadcast rights, so someone else has bought them. It's nothing to do with the licence fee. It just so happens that the organisation which bought the online rights has chosen to use the Radio Suffolk feed.

I risk severe criticism I know but the football coverage on Radio Suffolk I now find boring and stale. It needs a change. Life's a pitch is more like life's a bore. I didn't listen to any of it last season and didn't miss it one bit. PS I would also welcome change to our pre pitch entrance music.
Blue_Again added 21:42 - Aug 5
I would welcome no music being played when we score. So sick of that f ing tune!!
ipswichtillidie added 22:20 - Aug 5
For those people not living in radius of Suffolk try going online or adding the app to mixlr. You can quite ofton pick up the commentary this way. I use it when I'm on nights for the away games in London.

I think we are lucky BBC Suffolk still has the rights. It won't be long before the club sell them off to a higher bidder. Agreed Mick Mills is a bit sleep inducing but my biggest complaint is them taking calls and opinions from people who haven't been at the game. Should be cut off to let others on the air.
Pessimistic added 08:11 - Aug 6
In defense of Frank from Holland I think he only gets on because too few people call up after the game which is a bit bizarre as we get around 20, 000 on average at home matches. I love the show incidentally and I think We should all be grateful for such a professional standard of broadcasting on what is after all a LOCAL radio station! Graeme Mac works the engine room superbly back in the studio and Brenner Whooley is a wonderful commentator and will inevitably find himself on Five Live sport I Believe. As for Mick Mills I am delighted he is continuing to do the supplementaries as he is an astute observeR of the game and just as when he played football his meticulous attention to detail ensures he is on the ball all the time. Great show. Great people and we should be thankful for every aspect of this top draw sports local sports show.

Hope they drop Mick mills from doing the after match summary. So not with the game these days. Get a younger ex player in.
