McCarthy Names Strong Bench

Town boss Mick McCarthy has named a strong bench for this evening’s Capital One Cup first round tie at home to Stevenage, having announced his starting XI yesterday.

Bartosz Bialkowski, Tommy Smith, Ryan Fraser, Daryl Murphy and Freddie Sears are all amongst the subs, along with young midfielders Adam McDonnell and Kundai Benyu.

Town: Gerken, Chambers (c), Yorwerth, Berra, Kenlock, Coke, Douglas, Toure, Tabb, McGoldrick, Pitman. Subs: Bialkowski, Smith, McDonnell, Benyu, Fraser, Murphy, Sears.

Stevenage: Day, McCombe, Franks, Schumacher (c), Pett, McAllister, Parrett, Wells, Akinyemi, Lee, Okimo. Subs: Jackson, Hughes, Williams, Casey, Johnson, Conlon Gorman. Referee: Fred Graham (Stanford-le-Hope, Essex).

Let's hope we don't have to throw on any of the experienced ones and can build a cushion (probably more than two goals based on Saturday's performance!) so we can bring on a couple more youngsters later in the match

really am bemused to why tabb is starting ahead of the likes of henshall and connelly? guess it is for experice with lenlock, but he has berra for that!

One down. Why don't we ever take this competition seriously? The list of defeats to lower league teams in recent times is frankly embarrassing.
