Sears Signs New Deal
Tuesday, 18th Aug 2015 17:23

Striker Freddie Sears has signed a new contract which runs until the summer of 2019 with an option for a further season.

Sears, 25, joined the Blues from Colchester for a fee of £100,000 in January and scored nine goals in his first half-season at Portman Road.

The former West Ham youngster, who was previously contracted until June 2017, netted his first goal of this campaign during Saturday’s 2-1 home victory over Sheffield Wednesday.

Ace, great little player and seems to have blue blood now which is great. Capable of playing in the prem, albeit the bottom half. Really good signing. Give him a big boast for tonight hopefully, not that he needed boosting from saturday

Nice one Freddie. Well deserved too! I think McGoldrick and Pitman have a hell of a job trying to dislodge him at the moment. He's started much sharper than Murph has. Hopefully he'll celebrate with a hat-trick tonight!

Just to save Jas0999 the bother before he posts it, this doesn't mean Sears will now be sold....

Brilliant news. Another superb signing from Mick McCarthy. Think of the years we have watched a pedestrian Ipswich team, now suddenly we have the pace of Sears, Maitland-Niles, and Fraser!

Agree with previous comments.
It also shows what a great spirit is in the squad also; with Didz getting back to something like his best, the club turning down £4.5m for Murphy, then signing a quality finisher in Pitman plus the likely return of Varney by Christmas; it would have been easy for Freddie to think 'hang on, I have no guarantee to be playing here, why would I commit a longterm contract?'. But the lad clearly believes in himself, is a team player & trusts in the manager to give him a fair chance & reward performance.
Great news for us.

For all my moans and groans at some of the things at the club I am becoming more impressed with how they are quietly going about business behind the scenes with players. This is good news and hopefully more will follow. Can't imagine Clegg would have got this done.

Woaahh Freddie Freddie!
Freddie Freddie Freddie Freddie Sears!

Great news we need to keep him he definitely hasn't hit his peak yet in my opinion, doubt he'll be world class but he'll be midtable prem in my opinion

He deserves no less, always full of running, and is my prediction to be towns top scorer this season.
COYB's.

Love this. Joined us from Col U and initially was only on slightly better wages when he signed. Plays well, scores goals and keeps the likes of McGoldrick and Pitman on the bench - the lad most certainly deserves a pay rise.

This is great news! Well deserved, looks so sharp so far this season. The days of players running down their contract then jumping ship are a distant memory now!
