McCarthy and Connor Extend Town Contracts
Friday, 22nd Jan 2016 13:14

Town boss Mick McCarthy and his assistant Terry Connor have extended their contracts until the summer of 2018 with options to remain at the club for two further years. The duo, who previously worked together at Wolves, took over at Portman Road in November 2012 and signed three-year contracts in the summer of 2014.

“TC and I are obviously delighted to have extended our contracts,” McCarthy told the club site.

“We are really enjoying the job here and the results on the pitch have improved year on year.

“In a relentless and tough league that the Championship is, that is testament to the hard work the players have put in.

“I think we have a team we can all be proud of and it’s mine and TC’s job to make sure that continues.”

Ian Milne, Town’s managing director, added: “It’s obviously great news that Mick and Terry have agreed contract extensions at the football club.

“We have also signed up a number of our players on long-term contracts over the past year or so who have been at core of the team and with Terry and Mick in charge of that team we will continue to have a stable foundation to build on over the coming seasons.”

Best manager for years and deserves the new deal. But will Evans finally back him financially? Let's hope so. No one else cares about FFP. Time for Evans to step up,

Micks statistics re: 'results have improved year on year'

2012/13 P: 33 W: 15 D: 8 L: 8 Pts: 53 Pts per game: 1.6 Win% 45.5
2013/14 P: 46 W: 18 D: 14 L: 14 Pts: 68 Pts per game: 1.48 Win% 39.1
2014/15 p: 48 W:22 D: 13 L: 13 Pts: 78 Pts per game: 1.69 Win% 47.8
2015/16 p: 27 W: 12 D: 9 L: 6 Pts: 45 Pts per game: 1.66 Win% 44.4

So there we have it - very consistent win percentages and points per game from MM/TC and no doubt stability there which will keep us near or in the play-offs but can MM improve the ship? Really not that much improvement though as Mick suggests from over 3 years on. So makes you wonder how I've got so many down votes :)

What I want to know what salary Mick is on?

If January isn't depressing enough already now this. Another few years of hoofball and boring football from a man of the past. What will be the excuse when we finish out of the top six? Will he call it a year of progress? Still, this is what we will have to put up with as long as Evans PLC are the owners.

This just about gets as exciting as having a wet fish in ones face
At least the Usual Suspects will be pleased with this

But the ITFC purists who prefer proper style football wont be

Under McCarthy Town bought and sold Mings, turned a profit for the first time in years, AND remains a promotion prospect.

We hear this cr*p all the time about long ball, hoof ball, blah blah blah as though Town are a Big Club entitled to win the beautiful passing game every time then cry like Arsene Wenger if they get beaten by a 'direct','physical' team.

McCarthy has turned the Town into a tough bunch of boys who play for each other. Like any half decent manager, he can recognise a good footballer when he sees one but where do you get them for cheap? You don't unless you develop them like he's doing with Teddy Bishop, or you take a chance on loan deals that don't work out as with Williams.

None of that means that Mick hasn't made some weird decisions but at this point in Town's history I don't know who'd do any better with the available resources.

Come on Mick and Terry! Come on Town!

Honest, committed and knows the game. Most championship sides would love to have MM as their manager. It's a pity that this site has so many habitual posters who are disinclined to give MM credit for anything. Thankfully most supporters accept the ups and downs of football and the economics of the game. They tend to be the silent majority who probably never post comments.

So basically we're four points down from our corresponding fixtures last year. Nothing to get in a fuss about but... time to offer a new contract? I'm not so sure. Whilst grateful for all McCarthy and Connor have done I feel this club is on an edge of a precipice and close to jumping - the question is whether we fly or fall.

For the record, Birmingham away was a draw last season so if we win we'll be two points down on the corresponding fixtures last season. If we lose we'll be five down.

I really find it hard to believe that people can defend this mans record...astonishing....
Anyone with a brain can see he's getting us nowhere, and if we were promoted we'd be whipping boys, as this man DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO PLAY MODERN FOOTBALL.

And still people say 'look what he's done on no money' and 'he saved us'....yawn, yawn

How long do we need to be hoofing upper-mid table before these supporters actually cotton on!!- beggars belief!!!

Nothing to celebrate here. He isn't going to develop a style of flair football at this late stage in his career so gates at Portman Road will continue to be subdued and our future budgets likewise as a result. This is the ME way of saying thanks for not rocking the boat and keeping us in the Championship while I continue to look for a buyer.

News just in .......I have just sign an extended deal not to have a season until 2018 !

I will continue to pick and choose my home and away games, as to watch a whole season of Micks football at £25-35 a seat (I know lower if I had season ticket) I would be so depressed.......takes me in some cases 2 -3 weeks to get over style we currently play, but every now and then I do see a good game !.........I will always support my Ipswich town but at the same time need to look after my state of mind and health..... here is looking to buying a season ticket 2018-2019 !

Wark the wark i would of thought that even you could work out the number of supporters far outweigh the anti brigade so i take it your accusing the majority of fans as being brainless.

Stato added 14:03 - Jan 23
@essex57 you clearly do represent the majority but are you not concerned in any way that the lack of entertainment at Portman Road is having a negative impact on attendances ? I think those fed up with the McCarthy style are growing in number and if we don't finish in the play offs this season I predict ever larger numbers will start to demand changes.

All I hope is part of the deal is that he is GIVEN MONEY TO REINFORCE A PAPER THIN SQUAD - Life is all relative - following two of our worst ever managers and a stagnant period of progress he has moved us forward - but now we need to get in the fast lane and for that we need to add afew players -ME and Co , i HOPE THAT WAS PART OF THE DEAL

Just do not understand why a Chairman of any club would give a long contract to a manager who doesnt play any first team players for a cup tie its a Joke, no ambition, and taking the mick out of the fans who spent all their hard earned money to go and watch the game
