McCarthy and Connor Extend Town Contracts
Friday, 22nd Jan 2016 13:14

Town boss Mick McCarthy and his assistant Terry Connor have extended their contracts until the summer of 2018 with options to remain at the club for two further years. The duo, who previously worked together at Wolves, took over at Portman Road in November 2012 and signed three-year contracts in the summer of 2014.

“TC and I are obviously delighted to have extended our contracts,” McCarthy told the club site.

“We are really enjoying the job here and the results on the pitch have improved year on year.

“In a relentless and tough league that the Championship is, that is testament to the hard work the players have put in.

“I think we have a team we can all be proud of and it’s mine and TC’s job to make sure that continues.”

Ian Milne, Town’s managing director, added: “It’s obviously great news that Mick and Terry have agreed contract extensions at the football club.

“We have also signed up a number of our players on long-term contracts over the past year or so who have been at core of the team and with Terry and Mick in charge of that team we will continue to have a stable foundation to build on over the coming seasons.”

Good statement of backing by the chairmen to his manager , as MM has done to his players . Now need to release some money to enable MM to have the ability to really push on if he can

Great news, Mick has not only turned the team around, the whole club is a better place to be and you look forward to games rather than dread them. Anyone who saw the Leeds game will know we are more than capable of playing both decent football while mixing it with the needed long ball, more of those sort of performances please. Would be lovely to see him get rewarded with some leeway in the transfer market but you can't argue with the side he's built up from peanuts. If we had a fully fit Bishop and McGoldrick I believe we could be pushing for automatic promotion, those two have been hugely missed. Pleased to have Mick and Tez on our side. Coyb

Lol at all the haters. MM and TC took over when we were screwed. We finished mid table. Next season we finished 6th (just). Right now it's January and we're right in the playoff mix and to be honest, not that far off top 2. Rome wasn't built in a day - please don't forget the mess that Jewell and Keane were.

Excellent news.
Keep the tactics direct, the budget minimal, and we will reach the Premier league for sure.
The right choice - the club is in the safest hands possible.
A big money egotistical signing(s) at this time would blow the team spirit out of the water.
Maintain our current approach.

well i for one was thinking he may walk if we dont get promoted this season, being shackled by finances. It seems im wrong. He has done a good job on a shoestring and i have never knocked him,i dont feel that optimistic re promotion but think we will continue to get close.I am not saying i think that is good enough,im just being honest and realistic,The finances of the club are a critical factor when it comes to progressing further .If im wrong and Mick can pull it off great, could be in a worse position ,fighting relegation .

Brilliant news! We have steadily improved since he was appointed in 2012 and its good to have stability and continuity at the club. With MM and TC at the club we have a good chance of promotion every year.

There is such a positive atmosphere around the club at the moment and like Mick always says, we have a team and club to be proud of once again!

Let's get some fresh players in then to show Mick's worth for a potential 4 year deal. Surely a decent transfer budget and keeping the manager on long term to get promoted go hand in hand.

Continuing 19th century tactics even further into the 21st century - cosmic. Better strengthen those neck muscles as we carry on watching the ball fly through the air.

Although I do not agree with his stance on picking Cup teams this for me is great news and gives the Club the stability it needs. I know I am in the minority but I only go to watch Ipswich Town win however it is achieved. I believe our long ball game is over emphasised on here but it works for us as our league position suggests and as I have stated on here in the past Portman Road will be packed out for a play off match however we achieve that. Its a results business at the end of the day. Well done Mick and Terry I am sure as always you will get plenty of songs at St. Andrews tomorrow.

So for the first time in years we have a manager who has been given time to develope the team , lucky for use we gave sir Bobby time too .

For every one who dislikes the football we play , who would you get rid of and who would be your replacements for them , remember younonlybhave a small budget if any ,
Should be interesting reading ,
Well done MM and TC

Don't always agree with the tactics, and MM is a stubborn old git, but really this is great news for the club. He's done wonders on a shoestring budget. Stability should breed success. It took George Burley 5 years to get us up - let's hope Mick can do it in less.

Great to get the stability back and many clubs would welcome continuity that we have now..however .....please start to allow some creative players to have their head and push us on..all teams have their water carriers and Workmanlike personnel but the ones that achieve have the classy odd one or two that makes key decisions and take decisive action when it arises..notably midfield and goalkeeper..COYB

Personally, under the circumstances, I think they have done us well with the resources they have been given.

Horsehollerer I love 'Spunk Trumpets' that sums up well some of the less intelligent members on here!!

Given the budget restrictions I think MM and TC have done well but it fills with a little despair that we're unlikely to do anything in a cup competition for at least another three years.

I,m just sitting on the fence, can,t make my mind up wether i,m pleased or not, having read Harry from Bath,s report on how simular the two clubs are, running on a shoestring etc, i don,t know would we have been better off with a younger manager like Brums? just don,t know! not privvy enough of all the info

@southnorfolkblue and a few others, must be a pro MM backing during the daytime on here. I'll show you some statistics that prove MM statement of 'results improving year on year' later when I get time (I actually proved this at the end of last season and we haven't improved on last season).

Problem is too many people think McCarthy is the manager to keep taking us forward and only refer back to the bilge management of Keane and Jewell in comparison and look no further back than that time. I'm happy to keep McCarthy as manager for the immediate future but this extension to his contract as I stated is confirmation of the 'comfyness' I believe that lies between him and the owner and the continued debate about about purse strings.

I had to chuckle at the amount of down posts I received (must almost be a record on here) and some posts touching on trolling (@horsehollerer - personally believe you can't have much of an IQ for such a post) - anyway as I mentioned get out the knife and fork in preparation for a nice slice of humble pie.

I reckon this is can only be a good thing for us and obviously the contract extension for 2018 onwards must be for MM & TC to get us to the champions league final.;-)

Think I agree with witchesaswell. I'm not convinced that this is the right time to be extending MM & TC's contracts either. I have had my suspicions for some time that both manager and players are happy earning their crust at what is a very respectable level. I don't think Mick's style works in the Premiership and he hasn't had great success there, and the majority of players we have wouldn't get in a Premiership side, so where's the incentive to get promoted? They would effectively be writing their own P45's.

As things stand, everyone's happy, staff have a nice life, fans get to flurt with the playoffs every now and again, and hopefully feel satisfied 'winning more than they lose' and putting up with dull football. We are not going anywhere fast my friends.
