Lloyd Dyer to Join Town
Monday, 8th Feb 2016 10:26

TWTD understands that former Watford, Leicester, West Brom and Millwall winger Lloyd Dyer will join the Blues on a deal to the end of the season. The 33-year-old’s contract at Vicarage Road was terminated by mutual consent last week.

Birmingham-born Dyer began his career at the Hawthorns and spent time out on loan at Kidderminster, Coventry and QPR before signing for the Lions in 2006.

He moved on to the MK Dons for two seasons before signing for Leicester in 2008 and helping them to the 2013/14 Championship title.

The 5ft 8in tall wideman moved on to Watford that summer, signing a three-year deal, but made only six starts and 10 sub appearances for the Hornets last season, scoring three goals.

In January last year he went out on loan to Birmingham, where he made eight starts and 11 sub appearances and netted once. Having not been involved at all this season he left Vicarage Road last week.

"We understand Dyer will put pen to paper on a deal to the end of the season on Tuesday.

Blues boss Mick McCarthy was looking for an additional left-sided winger even before Ryan Fraser suffered his hamstring injury during Saturday's 1-0 defeat at QPR with Tommy Oar having left Portman Road at his own request last month.

Former Arsenal and Charlton man Jerome Thomas spent a week training at Playford Road but wasn't offered terms. Town are likely to announce how long Fraser will be out of action today.

With Dyer to come on in the second half.

It doesn't scream out at me either wayway. However I'm willing to give him a chance. People write off both berra, murphy etc players who have done very well for us. I'd love us to spend a fee on a big name player. But as seen with derby it doesn't guarantee you anything. Living in derby and speaking to there fans they have overspent on very average players and now face the prospect of rebuilding again. We're going through a rough patch at the minute, have mistakes been made of course they have. But we have 16 games to turn it round, it isn't going to be easy but I'm
Still confident we can.

Dyer has always done a good job against us so it will be nice to have him on our side for a change. At 33 he's hardly our future but we could get a good season out of him. What's more worrying is our midfield for the next match,it's not looking promising at all. Keaneish' line up looks most likely with Coke and Tabb in the centre. I rate Tabb and think he deserves his chance but we could really struggle to have any semblance of control in the centre. I know Dozzell is away but it could have been a real opportunity for him to make his debut.

Maybe McDonnell,AMN,Tabb,Dyer? Have no idea how AMN will perform in the centre though.

Can not believe the moaning. How many injuries we have and this guy is not good enough back up for you? Obviously someone will come on loan. Positive thinking and that..

If he does sign I hope someone's kind enough to introduce him to TWTD so he can see what a warm welcome he'll be receiving.

I don't want to dis the bloke before he even gets a shirt on but this is really not the answer other than cover. I just hope he works as hard as Frazer when he does get on the pitch and perhaps score a goal or two.
I am really beginning to wonder if after nearly 40 years supporting and 30 with a season ticket I can be arsed to drag myself down to Portman Road to watch much more of the dross that McCarthy is serving up. No ambition by the club and the style is dreadful. I used to really look forward to match days, get there early, have a pint or two and a laugh with the others who sit around us. Now people don't bother showing up until 15 minutes before kick off knowing the next couple of hours will be purgatory.
Please do something to bring the excitement back.

I can't believe the comments on here ??? If you want to be wowed by big name signing, young players with bags of potential then go and support Arsenal Chelsea or man united ! Ipswich won't be spending money. They'll be sticking with a manager that brings a massive amount of consistency, guarateed top half finish in he championship and 11 players on the field that will run through a wall for him. Newsflash IPSWICH TOWN ARE A SMALL CLUB (championship sized) I'm not saying Ipswich will never return to the premier league all I'm saying is be grateful we haven't fallen off the face of the earth into league one or 2. See people saying "this is my last season as a season ticket holder" <- those sort of fans are the ones you don't want at the game anyway, I've been there since 95 and I'll be there till the day I die. This is because I go to support the team, not to be wowed and entertained by the football because if I wanted to do that I'd move to Barcelona ! Just follow the town up or down and be positive !

If you look at the average age of team we really don't have that many oldies, what's the average age of our starting 11, id guess about 28, exactly where it should be. Players like Dyer make good cover options because they don't expect to play every week and nor are they staring at the leash to get mins like a youngster would be, they sit, wait to be called on and come in and do their job. If you cant see that every club both has and needs players like that you are an idiot.

Some people are obsessed on here with pushing an agenda, a rhetoric, a philosophy like we are in pursuit of football utopia, its a football club, not a political debate.

Go an wear your berets at a Corbyn rally

BigHibbs you make some valid points, yes we are not a large club, twice we punched above our weight under Ramsey & Robson. What is making some of the fans unhappy is the lack of entertainment, the complacency, the board and manager saying one thing and doing another in the transfer market, the resigned nature of some of the fans that if we win a few games every so often that is acceptable. The team at the moment as Shane Supple said are just going through the motions, not really pushing for the top, happy to earn their living. The league is a competition in which we are not competing fully

While I think he probably is a decent player and certainly has the promotions to prove it, I do wonder how much he is going to want it this time, seeing as it would mean hed be moving on again if we were to be promoted.

I will reserve judgement until I have seen him play two or three games but don't hold out much hope for him after Mc Carthy has coached him for a few sessions and taught him his Hoofball style.

I would think that lloyd already knows he probably won,t be here next season, but he has a chance to be in the window so who know,s some players have pride in there performance,at 33 he,s not over the hill yet, many go on much longer, how old was Warky when he got us promoted

Grumpyoldman - Supple was referring to the team he was part of 8 years ago not the current one.

I have been watching Ipswich since 1977 and to me the best manager after Bobby is MM. George Burley did a good job but left us with Finidi George, Mattio Serini etc and a world of debt. Mick has picked up the reins from the shambles since and has turned us into a competitive team again. Stop banging on about the management, you will find no better and will wish he was back if he leave. He is one of the best and given the right players he would surprise you bunch of whinging experts :) . Cheers

gixxeral ........ entitled to your opinion, just as everyone else is - just no need for you to 'whinge' about your assessment of 'so called whinging experts''.

Keep being happy for another 38 years - doesn't mean we all have to be.

We will not find a better manager than McCarthy??? Oh, I completely forgot, he saved us from relegation and what has he done since? Served up the worst football that was not seen even in John Duncans time. Still, if it makes you happy
