Town Down to Ninth
Saturday, 20th Feb 2016 17:27

Town dropped to ninth in the Championship, five points from the play-offs with a game in hand on Sheffield Wednesday in sixth, following today’s fixtures having started the day eighth.

Derby (54 points) came from behind to win 3-1 at Brentford to climb back to fifth ahead of the Owls (53), who lost 1-0 at Preston.

Cardiff City (49) moved up to seventh following their 4-1 home victory over Brighton (fourth, 57), a point ahead of eighth-placed Birmingham and the Blues (both 48), who weren’t in action today.

Meanwhile, Town’s Tuesday opponents, Championship leaders Hull City, made 10 changes as they drew 0-0 with Arsenal at the Emirates in the FA Cup.

Elsewhere, in League One, on-loan Blues winger Cameron Stewart played the first 52 minutes as Doncaster lost 1-0 at Barnsley.

In League Two, Josh Yorwerth picked up an assist as Crawley drew 1-1 at home to Plymouth Argyle, while Matt Clarke was an unused sub as 10-man Portsmouth’s game at Yeovil ended with the same scoreline.

Keeper Michael Crowe’s loan side Braintree made the long trip to Barrow in the Vanarama National League only for their game to be postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Young striker Cemal Ramadan’s loan club Maldon and Tiptree had their Ryman League Division One North match at Waltham Abbey called off, also because of a waterlogged pitch.

Academy scholar Nick Ingram played the full 90 minutes as Bury Town drew 1-1 at home to Cray Wanderers in the Ryman League Division One North.

Essexboy I think if you read my post it clearly states that next season is make or break I can't make it any clearer than that more to the point do you think that changing managers brings success?

essex57,likewise.! In this case, yes I do because under MM the style will never change and I don't want to watch hoof ball, like thousands of town supporters.Dont get me wrong he did a good job when he first came here, but now it's terrible.Do you not agree.!

Does anybody know how much money was wasted on poor transfers in the Magilton/Keane/PJ era (2008-2012)? - essex57 has mentioned 40 million (not sure if that's off the top of his head) but sounds a lot...

essex57 ........ in answer to your question.

No - changing the Manager doesn't always have the desired effect - although in a reasonably high % of instances it actually does. Chelsea being a current high profile example.

The point people continuously try to get across to you - is that WE as a Club deserve better that the dour style of the 'beautiful game' we continue to see - enough, has to eventually, be enough.
Most people don't mind losing a game if we've seen some entertainment, because we all realise no team can win every game - although Northampton are currently trying hard to prove that at least almost wrong.

This Club of OURS was weaned and bred on entertainment, communication of all, ambition, and last but not least - actually achieving a far share (and more) of success.

You may not remember such - but some of us can - and always will, because we care about what we once were. How that can be wrong, in anyone's eyes - is totally beyond me.

Let me re write it Next season for MM is make or break either you don't understand my post or you don't want to.
I might add There Are Plenty Of Teams In Leagues One And Two Who Would Willingly Swap Their Manager With Ours.

Aston villa as a current example Blueboy very successful Charlton,Colchester Leeds Portsmouth the list goes on...yes I do remember all the glory days one of the only things beneficial in getting old however that was over thirty years ago apart from a spell of glory under Burley that's the only success and there's been plenty of poor football in the last 30 years so why single out the one manager who has given us any hope apart from perhaps Magilton and he had some money to spend.

Blueboy and bluefeast spot on
I have no clue what the long term plan is for us seems all a bit back of a fag packet
Investment in academy ? investment in players?
MM is far too comfortable and probably knows Evans has little chance of attracting a new manager with no money to spend
How many half decent managers would take it on
On another note I was thinking how many recent Div One sides are up in the premier at moment ,many on hear always felt it would be the death knell of this great club , maybe not ? It may be just the wake up we need cos after next season with all the money on offer in premium I cannot see many teams breaking into it -all the relegated clubs will be even stronger
If ME was seriously motivated by a £100m carrot why no investment
Maybe mick told him we can't get any better!
Laughable if it wasn't SAD really

essex57 ...... I am speechless as to how much of an MM ally you really are - either an extreme wind up merchant or a relation of some kind.

Best we all let you stew in your own juice - we'll never get thro' however hard we try.

Essex57 if you don't like what you read on the site then just get off it. No one on here has any care for what you say anymore because all you do is just slate anyone that says anything that is different from your opinion!

In my opinion I will judge at the end of the season as my opinions don't mean anything as do all of ours on here I think ME will judge at the end of next season having given Mccarthy some money to spend in the summer
Not so pressba I just don't agree with you and your merry band of negative posters.
I do agree with many posts on here

What does 5 million buy you now a days, not a Tyrone Mings, not a Ross Mccormack, not a Jordon Rhodes. Maybe a Zaki Fryers. It's the game that has gone crazy and I can't say I blame Marcus Evans for not wanting to throw silly money at this. Can even good youngsters consistently cut it in the championship? Least Alex Henshall didn't cost a big fee like Lee Martin, 6 goals in 4 years and not many more assists!!!!!

I thought a Kàrl Robinson or a Tony Mowbray may eventually be good bets to succeed Mick, though MK Dons aren't exactly ripping up the championship, Mogga may just get Coventry back in the not too distant future but I am not sure he has had quite the immediate impact some were hoping for. In the meantime we can't compete with the big spenders nor should we try.

For every Bru there is a Bajner and whilst many of MMs acquisitions have been unspectacular very few players have let this club down.

Youth will get a good chance if it's good and consistent enough, Bish and Tyrone were both evidence of that.

Am I happy with the football, course I am not. I was lucky to see town at Wembley twice, and be in Amsterdam to witness that historic night with our own pair of fabulous Dutchmen of Arnie and Frans gracing the turf.

With our best eleven fit we may just be able to claim to be a top six team, but squad wise we are only mid table.

I haven't completely written off this season, but watching the FA cup on TV this weekend makes even more annoyed about our approach to this great competition. It's quite conceivable that a championship club could reach a semi final with a bit of luck.

I don't blame others for feeling MM has outstayed his welcome, but i would just say be careful what you wish for. Next season, with a bit more luck on the injury front and two or three more decent acquisitions then a more sustained challenge should be possible. But to expect more than that is only going to cause disappointment.

Budgie plucker brilliant post

Keaneish added 08:09 - Feb 22
It's a fair post budgieplucker but my view is that with an improved squad and optimism throughout the club about this season, we've failed when seemingly greater solidity. There are reasons for this but rather than remedying some glaring problems, we've belligerently ignored them to the detriment of progression. If we stop progressing then it's time for change and I'd welcome the opportunity to roll the dice and get fresh ideas into this club as it feels like we've stagnated.

I'd like Mick to succeed but it's clear he's very one dimensional and you need to be a lot more dynamic in the modern game to compete.

Budgieplucker I will just answer your first question £5 million could get you ,

Schmeichal , Morgan, Drinkwater , Fuchs, Mahrez , Albrighton , Vardy as it did Leicester .

The club need to stop making excuses and hiding behind imaginary FFP regulations , and tell us the real reason behind the lack of investment ?

Essex57 £ 40 million wasted on transfer fees is that ignoring the fees received for Walters , Wickham, Cresswell , Mings ?

And the big thing for me it doesn't matter how much you spend if the manager will never change his dire approach to how to play the game , I am not saying I want premiership football but there has to be better and more entertaining way to play and watch than what is on offer at present

I have to say it all over again, when MM was appointed it was down to a choice of two, MM and our laughing funny man Holloway, a great manager, if that man could get Blackpool into the prem and he kept them there with next to nil funding, well he would and was my first choice.
His style of football was ball to feet, direct, and entertaining, plus he would have made us all smile win or lose in match interviews, sadly it was never to be.
But i have to wonder what he could have achieved at town? at least we would not be served up this dire hoofball, we may as well forget our midfield as it generally sails 40ft above their heads.
I keep saying its a total rethink is needed Portman rd, from grassroots up, i can forsee many more years in the Championship, we will just amble along, a few little highs but mailnly lows for many seasons to come

Bit late now but just to say at the Q and A in Bristol when I asked Mr Milne if money had been available in January he said YES if needed.

So presumably the manager thought his current squad was OK and did not need strenghtening----DISCUSS!!

No more news on Bish and Dids-----very worrying.

Hull tomorrow-----its a funny old game.

Looks like those clubs that invested in Jan are starting to see the benefits and are pushing on, whereas we have started to stagnate. Disappointing, but there's still hope which I will cling to like the proverbial life raft until it becomes mathematically impossible for us to achieve a top 6 place.
