Berra Wins Cap in Scotland Victory
Thursday, 24th Mar 2016 21:47

Town centre-half Christophe Berra won his 32nd full Scotland cap and played the full 90 minutes as his side beat the Czech Republic 1-0 in a friendly in Prague this evening.

Watford midfielder Ikechi Anya netted the only goal of the game in the 10th minute.

Elsewhere, Blues left-back Jonas Knudsen was an unused sub as Denmark beat Iceland 2-1 in a friendly in Herning.

The 23-year-old has another chance to win his third full cap - and his first since joining Town - when the Danes face Scotland in another friendly at Hampden on Tuesday, a game Berra won’t be involved in as he was left out of Gordon Strachan’s squad for that match.

Academy midfielder Andre Dozzell played the full 90 minutes and striker Ben Morris came on as a 69th minute as England’s U17s beat Turkey 3-1 in the opening game of their Euro 2016 elite qualifying mini-tournament at Chesterfield’s Proact Stadium. Dozzell was winning his 10th cap at U17 level and Morris his fourth.

The England youngsters next face Finland at Leek Town’s Harrison Park on Saturday, before their final game against Ukraine at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday.

The teams which finish top of their groups and the best second-placed sides will go through to the finals in Azerbaijan in May.

Blues development squad keeper Jon Henly was an unused sub as Scotland lost 2-0 to France in Angers in a Euro 2017 qualifier.

Henly has another chance to add to his one cap when the young Scots host Northern Ireland in another qualifier in Paisley on Tuesday.
