Morris Signs Pro Deal
Wednesday, 6th Jul 2016 17:35

Striker Ben Morris has confirmed that he has signed his first pro deal with the Blues, as revealed by TWTD earlier today.

The England U17 international (pictured above, centre), who celebrates his 17th birthday today, is understood to have put pen to paper on a two-year contract.

Speaking in May, manager Mick McCarthy said Colchester-born Morris, who will be a second-year scholar during 2016/17, is currently a little way off a first-team debut.

“Ben Morris trains with us on the odd occasion and does really well,” he said. “But he’s not Murph, he’s not Freddie, he’s not Didz, he’s not Pits, he’s not at that level, but we do think he’ll get there. He’s a good player. Whenever he trains with us, he trains well.”

Morris, who has been capped 10 times by England at U17 level, scoring once, is likely to be a regular for Town's U21s and U18s during the season ahead.

Meanwhile, former Blues midfielder Lee Martin, 29, has signed a two-year deal with League One Gillingham having left Millwall at the end of last season.

2 year and not the standard 1 year with another year as an option. Must be rated!

Andre Dozzell and Nick Hayes both got two-year deals. It's the longest deal which can be signed at 17. Thinking about it there's not much point in giving them one-year deals as their scholarships last for another season anyway.

I friend of mines son who plays for Wolves signed a 4 year deal at 17 starting this July, the club wanted a five year contract and his mum wanted a three. This lad I'm on about is decent, I believe Morris got into the England U17 team as this lad Niall Ennis was injured. My point is you are not limited to two year deals at 17.

We've had 'Striker Morris to Sign Pro Deal', and this is 'Morris Signs Pro Deal'. Please can we complete the trilogy with 'Morris Has Signed Pro Deal' next.

I just can't get enough of the sheer electricity of this pre-season!

TractorCam,and several others I can think of,although Harry Clarke another promising young player, who I believe we got,or will get in the region of £100k from Arsenal;we had to sell I think, something to do with us not being Cat1.

Don't know if anyone else can throw some light on this another apparent disadvantage of being Cat2 ?
