McCarthy Confident Strikers Will Be Ready for Season's Start
Monday, 18th Jul 2016 16:55

Town boss Mick McCarthy is confident Republic of Ireland international strike duo David McGoldrick and Daryl Murphy will be fit for the start of the season. The Blues face McCarthy's hometown club Barnsley at Portman Road in their first game of 2016/17 on Saturday 6th August.

McGoldrick suffered a hip flexor problem during the training camp in Ireland and missed the friendlies with Shelbourne and Barnet, while Murphy joined up with the rest of the squad last Tuesday having been given additional time off having been at Euro 2016.

“Murph has had two weeks off and he needs that to recover after the European Championships because he’s just gone all year round,” McCarthy told the club website.

“I’ll try to give him a break at some stage but on any international breaks, he’ll be involved so we’ll be managing him and gently getting him back in.

“The reason he only had two weeks was so that he would be fit for the start of the season and he wouldn’t decondition too much.

“Didz has got a bit of scar tissue in his upper thigh and we’re just having to manage that because we want him fit and we’re trying to nurse him back to make sure he’s fit for the start.”

Speaking previously McCarthy said he expected Murphy to get back in match action in the friendly at Cambridge United on Saturday along with new signing Adam Webster.

The Blues' next pre-season friendly is at Colchester United on Wednesday evening (KO 7.45pm).

For all we know we MIGHT be signing someone this week. Just because there's no rumour doesn't mean nothing is going on.

Sadly, looks like another season of mid-table mediocrity. Personally, I don't understand what Evans is looking to achieve with ITFC.
I guess that he must have a plan - but what is it?

I my goodness there are some boring moaners on here. Why don't we spread a bit of positivity rather than be so negative. A heap of young lads have just signed professional contracts, Webster has signed and Murphs and McGoldrick will be ready to start the season COYB. Lets do this. Get behind the team

Relying on these two is foolish.

DM is made of paper and Murphy is old.

Last season MM bemoaned the lack of depth, surely this is a repeat.

Sadly I think these 2 have had there best days and if we could get money for both I would.

Lookman at Charlton and Grigg are the sort of players that we need----but hey, I am only a supporter.

There is a rumour doing the rounds, that we are looking to sell Didz to lower the wage bill, how much truth there is in that only Mr E and MM will know. If it is true we do need him fit before this can happen. If it's not true we need him fit to score goals for us!

We'll get him fit, he'll score a few goals and he will be off in the next transfer window!!

Such a shame McGoldrick is so brittle..in hindsight yeah we should've cashed in 2 years ago.

I think Pitman could be the key man for us upfront next season..may not be as talented as McG or Sears but I bet if he played every game next season he'd knock in 20 goals+

Having a fully fit McGoldrick and Bishop is I fear something that will not happen.

READY FOR WHAT!! Sale I hope.

McGoldrick won't be (still injured) and Murphy will be yards off the pace. Just hope MM gets Freddie and Pitman on song as we're going to need them big time

Why shouldn't Murphy be fit, professional sportsman, gets the best of everything, trains for a couple of hours a day, gets very well paid for kicking a ball

Why shouldn't he be fit!!!

Really fed up of some of the excuses comes out of Portman Road

Oh dear, things not progressing too well at my beloved PR,and less than 3 wks to ko.

Much said about transfers and approximate amount spent and received, which this anorak feels is interesting in the circumstances.
Bobby Robson (13 years) Spent £7478000-received £ 2823300
Bobby Ferguson(5 years) 430,000 2,460000
John Duncan (3years) 1,600500 2,352500
John Lyle (4 1/2yrs) 5,365000 3,265000
George Burley (8years) 31,962500 33,230000
Joe Royle (4 1/2yrs) 1,105000 10,455000
Jim Magilton (3 years) 7,315000 5,670000
Roy Keane (1 3/4yrs) 9,535000 4,950000
Paul Jewell (Ditto) 4,979000 9,660000
Mick McCarthy (3 3/4yrs) 1,508500 12,740000

From the above it will be seen that Bobby Ferguson spent the least, due to financing the Cobbold Stand;but he inherited the best squad from BR of any of the Managers.

Joe Royle had to manage the club during administration and made a profit of £9,350,000 in his 4 and a half year reign.

And who has made the biggest profit in transfers in less time than BFJ,why MICK McCARTHY.A whopping £11,231,000.

His brand of football certainly does not thrill the crowds(well not most of them anyway, hence lower renewal of season tickets);but the thing that Evans likes most is that he makes money, which from reading his profile ME seems to like;although not sure what he has in store for us suffering fans in the future.

It would appear that he is making Mick give more of the young players a chance(another money saving device);but not unwelcome. There is still a forlorn hope that he will allow the manager to spend a bit more before the window closes,as like JAS I feel that we still require 1 winger, allowing for Stewart and 1 striker, allowing for Murphy and McGoldrick not playing every game.

But the main requirement,as it has been during McCarthy's time in charge,is for an attacking central midfielder, who is capable of scoring a few goals.

I live in hope but not expectation!

Interesting stats Seasiders. But of course the real money isn't being a selling club, it's winning promotion. Okay McCarthy has made Marcus Evans £11million in mainly shrewd signings and big sales of players, but surely Evans would be more interested in the £170million that winning promotion to the PL is now worth. That's why I don't understand why ME seemingly isn't giving the financial backing to bring in players to achieve that goal.

Cloddyseedbed .......... as for the EADT and Radio Suffolk - 'all our yesterday's' are the absolute ALL there is for anyone to talk about anymore. Nothing current worth even a mention.

This Club isn't even a pale shadow of what it once was - the problem for us who have seen the 'good old days' and 'success' is we fully recognise the sad demise - where as, some never experienced any of it.

What an exciting pre season ? ......... never quite known anything like it.

Expectations have every reason to be running high, massive season ticket sales, great signings, strong well balanced squad. How could anyone ask for more.

RELAX - just trying to imagine the mind set of essex57 and his minus band - but still can't make it.

Never mind, we can't all be like it - and most likely wouldn't want to be .... !!!!
