Town Targeting Tottenham's Ward
Monday, 1st Aug 2016 11:40

Tottenham midfielder Grant Ward is the player the Blues are expecting to sign today, TWTD understands.

Speaking this morning manager Mick McCarthy said he hopes to make a signing today, which looks set to be Ward, while we understand the Blues are also closing in on a second further addition.

Lewisham-born Ward, 21, joined the Spurs academy as a 10-year-old but is yet to make a senior appearance for the Premier League club. He spent time on loan with the Chicago Fire in 2014 and Coventry City a year later.

Last season the right-sided winger or central midfielder made 35 starts and eight sub appearances while on loan with Rotherham in the Championship, scoring twice.

The move seems likely to be a loan with Ward having signed a new two-year deal in February.

Lets just see what happens but it will be a loan and it he will be playing left even though he is right footed ,so we shall see.

Gotta be WUM central this site - loans are fine if they are done properly!

Rotherham were flying back end of the last season, and if this lad was a key part of that then that's surely good news for us. Can anyone remember how he played when Rotherham beat us?

Phil - can you confirm?

Rumours of £500K flying round - now that would be a deal IMO!

Well Stuartbrett8 that would be better if we actually signed him permanently!

I'm happy if we actually sign some of our own players rather than loans .

I don't see anything wrong with that .

I'm a longstanding supporter with an opinion same as everyone!

I am guessing this is a loan as Rotherham manager was yesterday saying he was hoping to get him back on loan unless we have managed to sneak in with on offer to steal him under their noses.

I still think if we have a better year with injuries we have a top six squad with these additions we are starting to get some depth COYB!!!!!!

TotalBlue agreed - squad isn't as far off as some think injuries dictating just chronically short out wide.

Douglas, you better up your game this season or Mick make sure he's nowhere near the first team.

Good news! Seems like a really good prospect.
Now I just hope for a couple of more signings that are not loan deals.

Hope he has had a pre-season so he can go straight into the side, will be a good signing and hopefully a sign of more to come! COYB!!

If he goes forward rather than sideways or backwards then he is already our best central midfielder.

Bit of a set piece specialist too, which would be nice. We're crying out for young, hungry, quick, natural wide men with good ability and a point to prove. We're signing just that. This lad is absolutely rapid.
