Tottenham midfielder Grant Ward is the player the Blues are expecting to sign today, TWTD understands.

Speaking this morning manager Mick McCarthy said he hopes to make a signing today, which looks set to be Ward, while we understand the Blues are also closing in on a second further addition.

Lewisham-born Ward, 21, joined the Spurs academy as a 10-year-old but is yet to make a senior appearance for the Premier League club. He spent time on loan with the Chicago Fire in 2014 and Coventry City a year later.

Last season the right-sided winger or central midfielder made 35 starts and eight sub appearances while on loan with Rotherham in the Championship, scoring twice.

The move seems likely to be a loan with Ward having signed a new two-year deal in February.

TotalBlue added 12:38 - Aug 1 I am guessing this is a loan as Rotherham manager was yesterday saying he was hoping to get him back on loan unless we have managed to sneak in with on offer to steal him under their noses. I still think if we have a better year with injuries we have a top six squad with these additions we are starting to get some depth COYB!!!!!!
