Liverpool Still Eyeing Dozzell
Tuesday, 1st Nov 2016 22:59

Liverpool have reportedly maintained their interest in Blues youngster Andre Dozzell, despite the midfielder having signed a two-year professional deal when he turned 17 in May.

The Reds were pursuing the England U18 international prior to him signing his contract and, according to the Daily Mirror, remain keen with a possible £2 million bid mooted.

Dozzell scored on his senior debut aged only 16, like his father Jason, after coming on as a sub at Sheffield Wednesday in April and made his first start in the home game against Fulham later that week.

This season his only senior appearance came in the EFL Cup against Stevenage when he was subbed at half-time, while he has been on the bench seven times in the Championship but without making it on to the field.

Town are unlikely to consider accepting anything other than a very significant offer for Dozzell at this stage in his development with big things expected of the former Copleston High School pupil.

He cannot get near our match day team but Liverpool can see something in him ? Thought he did well at the end of last season as a lure to buy season tickets then MM reverts back to usual dull selections even though Dozzell has been fit all season

He may well move on if he can't get games here. Chances are though that he'll end up at Liverpool on the "loan wheel".

2 million seems low for a player with so much potential.

Wikipedia says that Jason Dozzell made 20 first team appearances in his second season - where Andre is now - and was a regular in his third season.

In those days of course Ipswich had a great record of bringing young players through from the youth system

You know what as daft as it might sound right now i reckon he's more chance of playing for Liverpool! Klopp will give youngsters a chance and has done.

Keane Rhodes go just about ensured the end of him with Ipswich to me and many other fans.

MM letting Dozzell go without getting quality game time out of him in our first team will be worse. Downright criminal in fact. We are in last straw territory!

PS hope there is nothing in this story but it sadly rings true

Well, in all honesty, what youngsters would want to stay here? Our manager doesn't think ahout the future and never gives them a chance, but instead brings in loans and plays his favourites!

Whether this rumour is true or not , this is the reason why McCarthy has to go. Are we going to lose talented youngsters because of Douglas, Varney & the like

Agreed with the above: if he signed for a prem team and got loaned out, surely that's better than sitting in the Ipswich reserves and not getting a chance? Or even when you go get a game, the way we play does him no favours at all. Bet it'd be different if he was 6ft5, 12stone and good in the air.

Sad days!

May as well try pastures new lad, as you will never get a look in here with MM, his favourites always taking preference to young talent.

It wouldn't make any difference who the manager was these players will be developed by clubs like us then bigger clubs will come and poach them.

And he cannot even get on our bench.

Speaks volumes about the decaying Pterodactyl we have in charge.

FFS Dino...GO NOW

Such a shame if he goes but you cannot blame the lad if he can't even get a game with Town.

He could end up spending time there going out on loan but his wages will be far, far higher than anything we will ever be able to offer him.

If he goes, I really wish him well and I'm sure he will do well as he has the passion. Such a shame that it won't be with Town.

Come on guys cut the club some slack. Alot of untruths and guesswork in yr comments. If they are goos enough they will play - Bishop, Kings, Hyam etc.

This annoys me so much, if we have any ambition and I doubt that we have currently then we should be blooding our young players and leaving them in the side if their performance warrants it. This is the only way to build a winning side and what Sir Bobby did to such great effect. Sadly if he goes it may well be he goes on the loan roundabout for years or plays in the reserves.............oh bit like he does now.
If I was his Dad, as much as he loves Town, I'd tell him to go and take a chance, it's a short career. Come on Mick, bring on the kids, I'd support you if you did.

At this moment in time Dozzell is going to waste.

It seems to me that there's a [pattern to our selling, Is it that Evans insists on one sale a year for big money to, perhaps, pay the interest on his loan ?

Since Bishop's dip in form Dozzell's the man to make ME happy in the pocket department.

I was appalled by us selling Rhodes - particularly after everyone had bought their season tickets in expectation of a great season to come. A real slap in the face for us as supporters and a massive mistake in my opinion. We lost, potentially, a perfect striking partnership of Wickham and Rhodes to power us out of the Championship

For anyone who's an Evans fan compare him with Vincent Tan. When Tan took on Cardiff he took on their debt - AND CANCELLED IT. Don't think Marcus did that did he ?

His time will come but I don't think it's quite yet starting wise. He really SHOULD have come on at Brentford when 2-0 down and only 2 subs made second half, that was very poor.

He's 17, playing in an under 23 league and will be getting better all the time.

Is he currently better than Sears / Lawrence / Ward / Bishop / Williams? Of course not, nor would I expect him to be either.

Andre, just hang on here for a while, it wont be long before we get a new manager and you will get games...

Good to see him linked with top clubs.
Shows that our club must be doing something right with youngsters!

A regular in the first team squad is a big achievement for any 17 year old at a Championship club. Dont worry he will get some games, will likely be during the Christmas period when we have that crazy fixture list and the FA cup.
He is still developing physically and training with the first team. Give him the time he needs without that pressure. He will become a better player for it.
Plus a serious injury to a player during his development years can really effect his progress.

If MM is smart, which he is, he will have one eye on next season and start bring the youngsters more in to the first team in the latter part of the season if the situation allows.
It will be next season when we really see the likes of Dozzell, McDonnell, Emmanual really breaking through for first team spots.

Get him in the team Mick. How an earth is this guy behind Douglas in the pecking order? Dozzell will go up in value the more he plays, whereas due to Douglas' age, hes worth absolutely nothing to us.

As some of the posts above have stated, this is a non-story. Every premier club, and I mean EVERY premier club have scouts at lower league teams, so all will be aware of Dozzer. He has a bright future, with definite potential. The figure of £2m quoted is just a figure, and in all fairness, that's probably all he is worth today. He's only 17, and has had, what, three starts? He won't be going anywhere for the next couple of years, where hopefully he gets time and progresses. I am of the mantra that if you are good enough, you're old enough to play, but I genuinely don't think that he is ready yet to be a regular. Give him a couple of games here and there, let him beef up a bit and get some muscle on him, and hopefully, with the right guidance from his old man, will get better and stronger and be a long term regular with us
