Liverpool Still Eyeing Dozzell
Tuesday, 1st Nov 2016 22:59

Liverpool have reportedly maintained their interest in Blues youngster Andre Dozzell, despite the midfielder having signed a two-year professional deal when he turned 17 in May.

The Reds were pursuing the England U18 international prior to him signing his contract and, according to the Daily Mirror, remain keen with a possible £2 million bid mooted.

Dozzell scored on his senior debut aged only 16, like his father Jason, after coming on as a sub at Sheffield Wednesday in April and made his first start in the home game against Fulham later that week.

This season his only senior appearance came in the EFL Cup against Stevenage when he was subbed at half-time, while he has been on the bench seven times in the Championship but without making it on to the field.

Town are unlikely to consider accepting anything other than a very significant offer for Dozzell at this stage in his development with big things expected of the former Copleston High School pupil.

Painful to see how this will inevitably pan out. Considered not good enough to challenge Jonathan Douglas but will probably move to Liverpool for peanuts and become a star. I'd rather play the kids like Dozzell and be in a relegation battle than all his old pals and finish 14th.

Dozzell is a good prospect but physically not ready for the demands of the Championship just yet.
I saw his debut at Sheff Wed and, while it was great he scored, the rest of the game passed him by.
The same thing happened against Fulham and against Charlton in pre-season, albeit he was operating out wide.
He needs to be integrated with patience. Sub appearances here and there with a view to more regular games next season.
Throw him in now and old pros (like the Douglas' of the world) will bully him off the ball.
And then some on here will bleat that he's not good enough and move on to the next big hope.
Dozzell will be a cracking player and, yes, he should have come on as a sub once or twice this season, but he needs time to develop.

I could stomach us dropping the amount of points we have been lately if it was with a team of our own youngsters. What I can't stomach, is the performances and results we're getting with players like Douglas getting regular game time, while the likes of Dozzell rot in the reserves. Andre is one of our own, and we as supporters want to see him play. We may drop points, but most fans would much prefer to see a starting XI that included the likes of Emmanuel, Kenlock, Smith, Dozzell, McDonnell, Bishop, Webster, Digby, Ward and Patterson - young, exciting players with big futures in the game.

ThatMuhren... would you prefer to see that starting XI playing in L1 and L2, or the likes of Skuse, Dougie and Chambers challenging (albeit pathetically) for play off into the premier?
It's all well and good saying we need to be playing "one of our own" - but if they are not good enough, then you they shouldn't get in the team just because of the fact that they are "one of our own".

If we decide what type of football we want to play at Ipswich and then structure that style from u8 all the way through to senior team.. And then develop players that suit that style of play.. And hire a manager and coaches to deliver that style of play.. As we used to do under Royle, Burley, Robson.
But all the different age groups play different styles of football with different systems.. We liked the players that were used on Saturday but they played to the same tactics and in the same system/style...You can't just say Work Hard for each other.. Track back.. I cannot believe the players are happy with how they are being coached and set up to play. From top to bottom it is wrong.

Andre has potential, but sadly isn't ready to start games, but I agree he should be regularly making the bench, and getting 10-20 mins a game. I personally don't think he will go to a premiership team as you don't have to look far to see only a handful actually get anywhere in the end.

Fair play.

If the lad wants to be coached by one of the finest set-ups in the world then why not.

I'd be packing my bags if given the opportunity.

That's strange.
He can't get in a bottom the table championship team?

The problem with Mick is that he doesn't seem to know how to deal with talented young players - he'd rather take 11 average 30something carthorses any day of the week over taking risks with young players like Dozzell..he throws the odd one in now and again (to keep us happy) but then reverts to the boring stuff cos it's all he knows how to do.

Not really Mick's fault as he just does not have the managerial intelligence to play free-flowing attacking, passing football...never has done, never will...no point in him being here any longer cos what he's serving up is not what the majority of us want..it was needed 4 years ago but now this club needs to move forward with an attacking plan.

Five or six well thought out comments over two pages of the usual stuff.

I don't understand how he can break into the first team at the end of last season then not be used this, when we have had so many injuries to our 'sexy players', to quote MM?
More evidence of the madness of King Mick.

Liverpool are looking for players who can fit into a high tempo, pressing attacking game. Ipswich under MM aren't . Its as simple as that I'm afraid

Wade blue as I've already said doesn't matter who the manager is if bigger clubs want him if his playing or not he will go that's the way it is I'm afraid.

What a ridiculous first sentence on this story. If Liverpool where interested in him before, why would the fact that he had signed a contract have put them off? That's how transfers work, players are under contract but sold on to others who are interested in signing them, for a fee.

If the boy has any future it would be away from Portman Road while MM is in charge, which is a terrible shame. As I have said before as far as I'm concerned if we drop down a league, change the manager and build a proper team using the lads with enormous potential that we have available, that would inject the passion into the club again and we would have exciting times to look forward to. With the current regime of putting a team out using different a squad of players consisting of loans and journeymen and under performing favourites every year, we are never building just going backwards. Sometimes you have to take a step backwards to progress forward. Good luck to the boy, he has if handled correctly a good future in the game from what I have seen of him in U23's.

The club will sell. Sorry but that's the reality, regardless of what the spin machine churns up. The owner has no ambition and doesn't care. He wants to recoup his small investment when he bought a large debt for a fraction.

Sometimes I get the feeling the best thing for this club is to go down a league and start playing some of our younger talented players and hopefully we can gather some impetus rather than just stagnating in the Championship season after season. Under MM we are guarenteed to stay in this division.

Jason - get that son of yours out of this Football Club before he has every ounce of the game coached out of him. Stay here and he'll be converted into a Defender or holding Midfielder before you know it.

The future is: More, and more boring Football to come.

The Owner won't be selling, because he has made it virtually impossible for anyone to be remotely interested in buying - for obvious reasons. Therefore the Manager won't be leaving his cosy nest.

Get used to it folks - we have what we've got - and we're here til' we're not.

Just get prepared for more spin at the end of season. Don't be mugged this time round, and taken for granted- and do what many have already done. It's dropping fast into the abyss anyway - and we don't even warrant an opinion, therefore leave it to the so called 'top two'.

You know it makes sense.

Andre has natural talent but needs more than that to compete in midfield in the hurly burly of The Championship.
He still has much more growing time, time to bulk up a bit, his father had a far more physical build when he made his debut. He will never lose that natural skill unless it is kicked out of him through injury sustained by lesser opponents kicking him out of the game.
The future is Andre and Teddy creating in midfield, Digby doing the Skuse role, Webster and Smith centre backs, Emmanuel and Knudsen/Kenlock attacking fullbacks, Bart in goal,Sears/Morris as poachers, a natural winger and centre forward to be bought. What do you think?
