Sheeran Would Love to Play Portman Road
Thursday, 2nd Mar 2017 09:52

Framlingham-based pop star Ed Sheeran says he would love to play a gig at Portman Road.

Sheeran, who was spotted watching Sunday’s East Anglian derby at Carrow Road and says he follows the Blues as well as Chelsea, the club his father supports, releases his third album entitled ÷ (Divide) at midnight tonight.

The 26-year-old former Thomas Mills pupil says he has no plans to play a hometown gig at Framlingham Castle, featured his recent Castle on the Hill single, but has definite thoughts about a Portman Road concert at some point in the future.

"I think it's still too close to home," he told BBC Radio Suffolk when asked about a Framlingham Castle gig.

"I would love to play Portman Road, I think that would be the closest to home I'd be comfortable playing. I don't know when that's going to happen, but it will happen eventually in my career."

Sheeran previously spoke about the possibility of a Portman Road concert in January and he says Town subsequently contacted him.

"They did, but we'd already booked in all the gigs for next year,” he added. “You basically can't book a certain gig too close to another - so if you've got a show in London the promoters get a bit weird if you book in Ipswich. So when I do it it's going to have to be a one-off thing."

This summer former Watford chairman Elton John is playing at Portman Road on Saturday 17th June with tickets available here.

A few weeks ago he may have got into the team. It would have been the easiest way to play at PR.

Mate, for some unexplainable reason you sell truckloads of records worldwide and you are an international megastar. So you start telling the promoters where you want to play, not the other way around.

I've heard of him but no idea of his music
Is this a sign of middle age, old age or being close to end of life

If its the guy with glasses - looks like he could do with a good wash

Looked up his stats.
Been out of the game a long time and not feeling very positive about this (if true). Maybe he's got back to full fitness??? But been out a long, long time.

He's got a few quid behind him, Forbes have him earning £33.5M last year. Still a long way behind our reclusive owner though.

I wont hear a bad word said about Ed Sheeran, whilst I was living and gigging around Norwich Ed was everywhere, playing every night and sleeping on peoples floors if he couldn't get home. He worked bloody hard to get where he is and he's a really nice bloke.

Ed sheeran does not have nearly the same depth of pocket as Evans. Needs to be like Jay Z Huge before buying the club.

Suggest an ES song for a club chant tho

BlueandTruesince82 - was saying the same thing. Castle on the Hill (at least the chorus) would lend itself perfectly to a rendition by the North Stand choir...

Would be great but it would sell out in 2 minutes with loads to resale sites, I wouldn't fancy my chances of getting tickets.

........ all Ticket sell out in the first 5 minutes of being on sale.

Typical of who we should be having at Portman Road - and encouraging him to buy into the Club.
