McLoughlin Joins Bromley on Loan
Thursday, 23rd Mar 2017 17:08

First-year pro striker Shane McLoughlin has joined Vanarama National League side Bromley on a youth loan for the remainder of the season.

The 20-year-old former Irish U18 international has been a regular for the Blues U23s this season and was on the first-team bench for the FA Cup ties at Portsmouth last season and at home to Lincoln this term but so far without making his senior debut.

McLoughlin, who signed a one-year pro deal with an option for a further season last summer, could make his Bromley debut in Saturday’s home game against Chester.

Also currently on loan in non-league are midfielder Kundai Benyu at Aldershot, defender Joe Robinson at St Albans, forwards Monty Patterson with Braintree and Ben Morris at Woking and keeper Jacob Marsden with Leiston.

I am finding the National league more interesting than the Championship this year. Great to have so many impressive ITFC representatives!

I wonder where they would be if they were at Ipswich in the days of Sir Bobby. He certainly wouldn't be loaning our young talent out to teams 3 leagues down the football pyramid, he'd be working hard on them to get them into our first team.

It is good to see so many of our youth players either gaining International experience or gaining game time at Conference level. Our U23 team may miss them this year, but the experience gained could see them pushing en mass for next years 1st team squad. Then it will be down to MM (if still here) to embrace young talent the same way as Sir Bobby did, so many years ago.

Surely if these players are good prospects they should be at a league 1 or 2 club on loan or am I doing a disservice to the top tier of non league

Shane is a very good player. He can play out wide or up front.

Best of luck Shane.

League clubs cannot loan players outside of the transfer window so non league is the only route for experience at this point.

With so much young talent being wasted I wonder if McCarthy had managed us in the 70s whether we would have seen the likes of Burley , Wark or Beattie in a town shirt

If he's 20 (and he looks at least that!), then by now he ought to be in the team.
