Town Among Clubs Linked With Doncaster Striker
Wednesday, 5th Apr 2017 13:28

Town are one of a number of clubs reportedly interested in Doncaster Rovers striker John Marquis.

According to HITC Sport the Blues, Norwich City, Blackburn Rovers, Barnsley, Bristol City and Sheffield United are all keen on the 24-year-old, who has scored 26 goals for the League Two leaders this season.

Lewisham-born Marquis, the joint-top scorer in the EFL this season along with Blades frontman Billy Sharp, joined Rovers from Millwall, where he came through the youth ranks, last summer and is contracted until the end of June 2018.

While with the Lions, for whom he made 28 starts and 37 sub appearances, scoring six goals, the 6ft 1in tall striker spent time on loan with Staines Town, Portsmouth, Torquay United, Northampton Town (three times), Cheltenham Town, Gillingham and Leyton Orient.

Marquis, who netted his first EFL hat-trick in Saturday’s 5-1 drubbing of Grimsby, is set for his second successive League Two champions medal having helped Northampton - with whom he netted six goals in 13 starts and two sub appearances in his most recent loan spell - to the title last season.

I tell you if we sign him he would be a really special signing. One you could show off to other fans. A real marquis signing.

I don't believe one word of this.

Until MM has has decided his future and Evans has decided the budget for next season, anything else is simply newspaper talk probably prompted by players agents.

Had a realy good season a Gillingham a couple of seasons ago. he went back to Millwall and did nothing , I know his had a good season ,but would be a big gamble and also unproven in championship. The time has come for ITFC to secure the servives of a proven goalscorer

MM will go depart at the end of the season, I believe we will give a young manager from the lower leagues a chance such as Paul Cook, dare I say Danny Crowley. And the budget will be small and spent on future talents, that's the way ME wants to run the club and I have no problem with it. The likes of Adam Webster, grant ward and our own youth system is our way forward and we will be back in the premier league. People need to get off ME back. The man puts 7 million a year of his own money that he gets no return for so we can go watch our beloved Ipswich week in week out regardless. The man deserves more respect,, hit the dislike button but it doesn't detract from the truth

Here we go again !! Rumour mill at it again, we do not know who will be manager next season yet, as Dino could still be here ????

Is Conor Grant saying to him "you don't want to go there"???

My one real worry is that Evans might target Bart as his sale for this season.

Stick with Sears and stop playing him on the wing and put the ball near his feet sorted see saved some money for painting the turnstyles :-) Sears just need to regain confidence that Mick has shattered.

Hmmm...maybe we should be looking at Donnie's manager too?

Straight swap for Kieffer Moore.

There are more fundamental issues. Will MM go? Will Evans sell up? The first question should be the easiest - three wins in 2017 says it all.

Don't let Mick sign anyone get rid of him and his proper blokes(crawlers!!!) then let someone come in with tactical knowledge and man management skills to build on what we have in the building and a few additions, when I think of the money we have spent since Mick has been here on paying up players contracts to get rid then why is Skuse still here ? we have paid off better players than him.

I think that before we are linked with any further signings the decision on whether the manager will still be at the club next season should be finalised.🤔🤔.

I have no doubt, based on our lack of goals this season, we will be linked with dozens of strikers over the coming months. Having recently re-read Evans 5 point plan I cannot see any signs that MM got the memo!!!! So surely our first signing of the summer has to be a manager who is prepared to work with the owner. We all have our view as to who is at fault for such a dismal season, but it is far more likely MM will leave before ME does.

Not a chance of this materialising.
I'm convinced that MM is going in the summer, which makes it difficult to confidently link any new players.

I reckon that Evans should do a swap with some tickets for one the gigs he seems to get plenty of tickets for while no one else can, he ain't going to spend any dosh that's for sure.

Nice sentiment Yungblue and there IS truth in your comments.

What is also true is that as the standard and in particular the money spent in the Championship on proven players has rocketed in recent years, ME has slowly but surely closed his chequebook. Maybe he doesn't trust MM, maybe he is happy with the dross served up week in week out, maybe he is not as Blue as you and I to fear enough the drop to the 3rd tier (listen to Milne talking stupid last Saturday to that point).

Whichever way you judge ME he has been delinquent in the running of our Club. Left it to MM. And now (inevitably) Mick is struggling it is like they looking at each other for answers. I would suggest both listen to the fans, step up for the Club or GO.

See we are back to people saying ME puts £7m per annum of his own money into the club. I just can't believe how naive people are and how often they quote these incorrect numbers!!!

Agree with MVBJohn. MM is going in the summer. How can he make such comments about the fans if he intends to be here next season. I think an agreement has been reached between MM & ME that he goes in the summer which is why we haven't spent. This has been a make do & survive season since January but ME didn't want to pay MM to go. MM will have no problem finding another club and maybe he has as the Canaries haven't appointed anyone yet have they. Who are they waiting for??????
This striker sounds good but we can't even think about next season until we know what's happening for certain.
