It shouldn't be a comparison between Robson and MM as they are miles apart in all departments . The question should be what were the objective s at the start of the season even after Murphy had been sold and MM publicly stated that in his professional 25 years of managing opinion this was his strongest squad he had in his time at Ipswich , if they were anything more than finishing 17th and not losing crowds or season ticket sales then he has failed dramatically and has to leave

To compare Bobby Robson with MM is like comparing a Rolly Royce with a Lada.

Bbg your arguments would hold water if the game financial distribution today was similar to those in Robson's day. When he was manager the away team got a percentage of the gate money, the tv was shared equally amongst clubs, there was little live football on the tv so no club got a larger slice of the pot. Only one team from each country played in the equivalent of the champions league and with again no live tv only kept the whole of the gate money, it was a lottery as a couple of bad results you went out of the competition early, so less revenue. The champions league and the keeping of all home gate money was set up to favour "big clubs". No way are we going to be ever in the situation to pay 64% of the British record fee again, probably we will never even qualify for European football again. I am lucky enough to have lived through the glory days of this club. All I want now is for my club to entertain me and at least give a semblance of striving to attain the promised land. Will we get there under mick the dick I doubt it.

RoyalAscotBlue Newcastle only got 2,000 allocation which sold out to season ticket holders in no time. Could we not have given them an extra 1,000 to boost the gate? Anyhow will still be a good turnout to honour a real gentleman. Always remember meeting him at Bury Town during a pre season friendly. Took the time to talk to anyone who approached him and signed autographs willingly. How badly do we need someone like him right now?
