Adeyemi Signing Confirmed
Friday, 30th Jun 2017 20:28

Town have confirmed the signing of free agent midfielder Tom Adeyemi. Earlier today, TWTD was first to reveal that the former Norwich youngster was set to join the Blues, despite interest from his old club and a number of other Championship sides.

The 25-year-old, who has agreed a two-year deal with the club having an option for a further season, was out of contract having been released by Cardiff City at the end of last season having spent the campaign on loan at Rotherham.

“I have known about the interest from Ipswich for a while but it picked up over the last few days and having spoken to the manager, it was an easy decision to come here,” Adeyemi told the club site.

“I didn’t need to speak to anyone else about the move. I know what a great club Ipswich is. I know about the history. The manager told me about his plans and how I fitted in and I have always admired him from afar as well.

“They were all key reasons why I wanted to come here, but Ipswich showed the most interest in me as well and that was important. I wanted to join a club that I felt really wanted me and I feel that here.

“I know the club have signed a few players lately so there is a bit of rebuilding going on and I’m delighted to be part of that.

“It’s a fresh start for me. It’s a challenge I’m really looking forward to taking on - to produce some good football here and play my part in helping the club compete at the top end of the table.

“It’s a very competitive league but we will start with ambitions of finishing in the top six.”

Born in Milton Keynes but brought up in Norwich, Adeyemi came through the youth ranks at Carrow Road and spent time on loan at Bradford, Oldham and Brentford before moving on to Birmingham on a permanent basis in 2013 having been released by the Canaries after making eight starts and nine sub appearances without scoring.

After a year at St Andrew’s the 6ft 1in tall midfielder joined Cardiff for a fee in excess of £1 million. Having failed to establish himself as a regular with the Bluebirds in 2014/15, he moved on to Leeds on a season-long loan the following season.

Adeyemi, who qualifies to play international football for Nigeria, joined Rotherham in August last year on a similar basis and went on to score seven goals in 29 starts and one sub appearance for the Millers.

While with the Canaries' youth set-up, Adeyemi gained A* grades in his A Levels in biology and chemistry and an A grade in maths and turned down the offer of a place at Cambridge University.

The Blues are expected to confirm the season-long loan signing of 20-year-old Manchester City youngster Bersant Celina over the weekend before they travel to Ireland for their now traditional pre-season training camp at the Carton House Hotel in Co Kildare.

Another very good signing! Midfield already is miles better than we have had in over a decade imo. Good luck Tom and welcome to ITFC, even sweeter for for him to come to us if the scum was in for him! Coyb

This is more like it still believe we need a target man attacking midfielder and a centre half if Taylor could keep fit maybe not but belief he will not but all positive congrats to all concerned

As I said earlier in the week when we were linked, he's a very intelligent lad (I notice it's been picked up on!) and he will make a decision based on football not money - he's certainly intelligent enough to choose us over the budgies!

Looks like Evans has listened to MM's advice on needing to invest more on players. Evans couldn't allow MM to take the flack any longer for his decision no to invest enough.
It's good to see nearly every player and manager confirm that MM is amongst the best. What did Adeyemi say about MM? 'I have always admired him from afar as well.'
Good stuff. Looking forward to the season starting.

Decent players coming because they want to not because they have to. Whatever MM's shortcomings he knows what he wants and Evans has clearly responded . Positive and very welcome. All good news for thosewho have kept the faith.

We have seen what Huws has added to the team, I'm hoping this lad Tom Adeyemi does even more. Our midfield has been crying out for players to take it to the opposition for several seasons now.
As for some thinking that Cardiff maybe knows something by letting these players go, I'd prefer to think it's compensation for taking Chopra off their hands.
I'm still not sure that MM has the guile to produce a team that can pass the ball and keep it on the grass, however I am open to being proved wrong.
Having been totally pi**ed off watching the tripe dished up last season these signings have given me some hope that we are going in the right direction.
With ME loosening the purse strings it certainly doesn't guarantee success, but neither did relying entirely on loans and freebies.
I would still like to see another two players added before the season starts another striker and a midfielder would be good.
Getting players to gel shouldn't be a problem if they are the right players with an attitude that compliments each other, let's hope MM has got it right.

Excellent, really pleased about this, Adeyemi could turn out to be our best signing of the summer given that he is a permanent signing on a free transfer. Right age, right height, scores goals and impressed at Rotherham.

Our midfield certainly needed a shake up, and Adeyemi coming in along with Huws and Celina should hopefully achieve that. It could be quite exciting if they do well and Dozzell and Bishop step up to challenge them. Far better that than watching the likes of Bru and Douglas in the side.

When I went to Cardiff last season their fans couldn't believe that Huws wasn't getting in the side. They let him slip through the fingers and I think they've done the same thing again with Tom. Good luck young man and welcome.

Welcome and good luck. Decent signings so far and what encourages me most is that they are all saying - spoke to manager about his plans and liked what they heard. Maybe the football is to improve, as I doubt any of our signings would be keen to join a club that is going to persist with the awful hoofball we have suffered for the last few seasons.

I just saw the interview with him. A mature, intelligent and articulate young man. Are we sure he is really a footballer?

ME at last seems to be listening, serious money available, looking to support away fans, dropping the matchday price hike.
One or two other things to be sorted/reversed but at least it`s a start, but why oh why wait so long and lose so many fans before action being taken.
Hopefully another couple of quality signings and a good deal on bulk tickets will see a decent start to the season and fans returning.
I was not going to do my normal 4000 mile round trip to get to the first game but may now.

This is extremely good news considering he is a Norfolk Lad but chose to play in Suffolk must say something about MM surely.
Things are beginning to shape up very nicely now and with a few more additions in certain positions we will have a very strong outfit for the coming season.Well done Mr.Evans.🙏

Evans a great owner!

Some people have very short memories.

We have certainly started our recruitment better this season but let's be honest it would have been hard to do much worse than the last few years. I think Evans has been forced into action by the season ticket holder revolt and he has a long way to go to make up for ten years of inept ownership in my book!

Is he as bright as that ex-Town midfielder and Cambridge Uni lad Steve Palmer? A blast from the past :-)
