U18s Defeat Canaries Saturday, 29th Jul 2017 14:26 by James Ager Town's U18 side deservedly beat local rivals Norwich City 2-0 in their latest pre-season friendly at Playford Road on Saturday morning, Albert Wilton and Jack Lankester (pictured) netting the goals. After the Canaries keeper had produced saves to deny Lankester and Brett McGavin early on, Wilton opened the scoring on 19 when he headed Kian Ronan's right-wing cross into the net from close range. The Blues introduced Rob Harvey at the break, a pacy winger who spent a spell on trial at Playford Road during last season from Essex side Brightlingsea Regent. Lankester found the net on 73 but his effort was ruled out for offside, however just two minutes later he collected a fine left-wing cross from Thomas Hughes and calmly slotted the ball home to double Town's lead. The visitors rarely troubled Harry Wright in the Town goal and the Blues controlled the game for long spells.
McGavin again impressed in central midfield and the strike pairing of Wilton and Lankester deserved their goals, and the winning margin could have been greater on another day. U18s: Wright, Ronan, Barley (Clements 46), Dobra, Woolfenden (Vega 46), Ndaba (Henry 75), Foudil (Harvey 46), McGavin, Wilton (Brown 62), Lankester, Hughes (D Crowe 75). Unused: Egan.
