Rotherham Boss: McCarthy's Prerogative to Recall Moore
Monday, 30th Oct 2017 16:52

Rotherham manager Paul Warne says it’s Blues boss Mick McCarthy’s prerogative to bring 12-goal Kieffer Moore - who has scored more times than anyone else in the top four divisions this season - back to Portman Road in January if he wants to.

Moore, 25, is due to remain with the Millers for the duration of the campaign but with the Blues able to cut his spell short at the halfway point if they wish to do so.

Speaking last week, McCarthy indicated that if Moore continues to score as he has during the first three months of the season then it’s likely he’ll bring him back to Suffolk when the window opens.

“Mick can do as he pleases, Kieffer is his player,” Warne told the Yorkshire Post. “He’s kindly loaned him to me.

“I’d like Kieffer to stay, but Mick holds all the aces really. If he wants him to go back to play for him, Kieffer goes with my blessing. He’s been brilliant for me. I’d love to keep him, but I’m also realistic enough to accept he is Mick’s player, not mine.

“In the same way, if Mick had one of mine and that player was ripping it up and scoring for fun, I’d kindly tell Mick I’d pull him back.

“Kieffer’s come here as part of his development. If Mick sees he’s a better player than he was, he might want to use him. I have to respect what Mick wants. I’ll probably touch base with him this week.”

He added: “I’d love to keep him. But if his future is elsewhere, then we have to look for other people to fill the hole he leaves.

“If he keeps performing the way he has - I didn’t think he was the best against Gillingham [despite scoring as the Millers lost 3-1], to be honest - and the lad wants to stay and Ipswich don’t want him, then obviously I’ll bid for him. But there are a lot of ifs, buts and maybes really.”

Moore, who cost the Blues £20,000 when he was signed from Forest Green Rovers in January, is contracted to Town until next summer but with the club having an option for a further season.

Get him back Mick and give him a run of games. Sadly though, I think if he comes back and doesnt score in the 1st 90 minutes, hes relegated back to the bench again.

Another shrewd investment by our under-appreciated manager

I'm looking forward to seeing Moore return. The current highest scorer in England, who would have thought it possible?! We all thought it ridiculous when Moore was picked ahead of Pitman last season, but MM has been proved right to give him the chance and he now looks a great signing for just £20K. I think in fairness to Kieffer if we bring him back he should get a run of games though, he'll need a proper opportunity.

Let Rotherham keep him rather have Garner McGoldrick Waghorn and Sears ahead of him

Sears is offering very little in attack these days, he should replace Sears. Alternatively, if McGoldrick gets sold in January he'd be an obvious replacement. If he does come back, we need to learn to play to his strengths. He enjoys "fainting" forwards and then pulling back, which relies on in-swinging crosses into the box. If we send in flat crosses, he'll lose the ball every time as we saw last season. He also needs people to work hard around him to allow him space. Rotherham have also expected little of him in defence. If we play him back to often, he will end up under utilised.

Sears has been ruined, true he isn't doing much now and a loan spell to a team that will play him in his natural positition would probably get him back on track, but he wouldn't come back to ITFC to be f####d up again.I think Moore may be spoiled in same way unfortunately , and be a bench warmer. If Celina cant cut it ,what chance Kieffer. .

Ssssshhh Gcon, don't start offering a balanced argument, or else someone will point out that McCarthy has bought in 3 top quality loan signings over the past 3 seasons too (Fraser, Lawrence, Celina).

IF he does not track back then he is no good to Dino, he does not like players hanging around in the centre circle waiting for a loose ball, because 9 players back is not enough for Dino when we are under attack !!!!

What a manager he is. Celina, Fraser, Lawrence, loans brought in, waghorn, garner, adeyemi, heuws, Webster, etc.... kids brought through the academy, dozzell, bishop, nydam, Downes, kenlock, etc..... Moore looks like a brilliant signing. This all proves McCarthy is a brilliant scout but an awful manager.

Given how many strikers we have atm, I think It would make sense to leave him there on loan all season. That way he confirms it is not a fluke, and he will be worth at least £1m, possibly a lot more. Then we can bring him back at end of season/pre-season and decide to keep him or cash in.

As others have said, I'm not sure he would actually play lots if he came back so would be silly.

Personally i'd leave him there for the whole season - if we drag him back he's only going to end up a bit part player - let him bang in 30 for Rotherham then he'll be full of confidence next summer and worth quite a bit of money if we want to sell.

I agree with others send Sears there and see if he can regain his confidence

MM - Bring him back if you are going to use him and adapt a playing style that will help him shine. If you are not or undecided then let him prosper at Rotherham. As for Sears, he needs something like this to get his confidence back. If both in the same side, Sears (like a few other players you continually include not based on merit) should drop to the bench or fighting to be on the bench.

PS - I know we (the fans) are biting at your ears regularly - FFS listen for once then you may find a different relationship with the fans. Us old dogs can learn new tricks!

I would 100% swap Sears for Kieffer Moore. I bet Kieffer Moore would be absolutely brilliant on the wing tracking back.....

And people wonder why Sears doesn't score!
