McGoldrick Out for a Month Following Horror Challenge
Thursday, 23rd Nov 2017 17:01

Striker David McGoldrick will be out of action for around a month having undergone surgery today on the four-inch gash to his groin he suffered in last night’s 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday.

McGoldrick, a former Wednesday loanee, was caught by a high, studs-up boot by Owls skipper Glenn Loovens in the fourth minute of the match with the 34-year-old Dutchman very fortunate not to be shown a card of either colour by referee Keith Stroud.

Ireland striker McGoldrick, 29, had treatment at the time of the tackle but carried on until half-time when he was replaced and made his way to hospital.

"“Didz has had surgery in London this afternoon,” Town physio Matt Byard confirmed to the club site.

""“The wound was cleaned and closed. There is some damage to the abdominal wall and muscle but fortunately it appears to be minimal.

""“There is heavy bruising in the area though and we are looking at a return in around four weeks."

This could be one of those incidents which gets referred to the video ref.
The ref's assistant should have stopped play. He appeared to be looking directly at the tackle.

I'd like the club to formally ask the FA to review this challenge and then share the reply. I'd like to see the formal response.

I'm not sure MM will change the tactics much. They are working after all!

As I understand it the FA can review these incidents and take retrospective action. Quite clearly it was a deliberate assault and could be subject to criminal prosecution.

Where's the apology from Loovens then? He may not have meant to cause injury but...........

Funny how the ref failed to see this appaling foul but managed to spot a non existant deliberate hand ball.

Maybe when the surgeon's finished with Dave he can have a go at the referee & linesman's eyesight #useless

i didn't notice the severity of the foul at the time, and watching it on TV, had the best view possible, so it is understandable that the referee missed it. I'm more concerned that he chose not to issue Jack Hunt with a second yellow at the end of the game, that would of prevented him from starting the move that led to the equaliser.

Straight red. No Arguments. If players can be suspenede post match for simulation then the same should apply in this case for a clear foul, and their player showed no concern at all.
Sent out to do a job on Didz perhaps ? We can but speculate.

I mean, come on! Loovens still had McGoldrick's genitalia on his boot after the challenge. Didz had to play half of the game with a puncture!
