Dozzell: Physios Have Been Unbelievable
Wednesday, 20th Dec 2017 17:13

Midfielder Andre Dozzell has thanked Town physios Matt Byard and Alex Chapman for their efforts as he continues his recovery from the ruptured cruciate knee ligament he suffered on the opening day of the season against Birmingham City. The 18-year-old is expected to miss the rest of the season.

“The physios have been unbelievable,” England U19 international Dozzell told the club site. "I have to thank them for all the time and effort they’ve given me.

“They set me goals and know exactly what I should be doing to prevent any injuries during rehab. I listen to them as they’re the experts and right now my recovery is going well.

“We aren’t looking too far ahead so there is no return date set yet but we’re definitely going in the right direction.”

Speaking about Dozzell last Friday, manager Mick McCarthy said: “May or June, that’s when he’s going to be back. But I’ve just seen him, he tells me he’s had a scan today and he’s recovering particularly well, he’s pleased with his rehab and recovery.

“But until he actually puts his boots on in May that’s when we’ll find out how good it’s been. But everything’s been a success, the op, and he’s recovering, it’s fine.”

Such a shame; Huws and Dozzell in midfield would have been an interesting combination.

At least he's young and so should recover quicker.

Such great young talent at the club! Can we sign them up for long contacts and hopefully have 4 or 5 come through together into the first team. May our only chance of promotion. Marcus would make a fortune with them all worth around 15 mil after that. ah but you never win anything with kids!

Always worried about those skinny legs of his. I hope he builds both them up to tree trunk dimensions before he plays for us again next season. Looking forward to his return, though.

Waggy can advise Andre in building up his thigh muscles.

Both top players. With Huwes I was curious how easily Neil Warnock let him go. His injuries were ongoing at Cardiff. Hope my pessimism is wrong

Great to hear his recovery is progressing well. No need to rush him back for the sake of a game or two at the end of the season. Let's get him fit for 2018/19 season.

I'd be more concerned about Huws. Seems like another Jonny Wiliams to me. Great great player, but sadly very injury prone. Misses more than he plays.

This is definitely one we don't want to rush back as such a bad injury must be given lots of time and patience. We should be securing this lad's future here for many years to come despite the injury as he could be one of the club's biggest assets when fit again.

Boy, how we need him back! It's important not to rush him. It sounds like the physios know what they are doing and Andre has complete confidence in them.

If we can get players like McGoldrick, Dozzell, Bishop, Huws, Adeyemi and even Hyam fit and keep them fit then we'll have so many more creative players and central midfield options.
