Town Take Up Option on Knudsen's Contract
Thursday, 21st Dec 2017 16:50

Town have taken up the one-year option on left-back Jonas Knudsen’s contract.

The Danish international’s deal, which was otherwise set to be up next summer, stipulated that the option which takes it to the end of June 2019 had to be activated by the end of this month.

“The club have taken up the option. Jonas has been excellent for us,” boss Mick McCarthy told IFollow.

“He has bought into everything TC [Terry Connor] and I have tried to do and has got better and better.

“He has got himself in the Denmark squad now and I really hope he makes it to the World Cup.”

Cole Skuse, Bartosz Bialkowski, Teddy Bishop, Adam McDonnell, Luke Hyam, Kieffer Moore and Kevin Bru are among those whose contracts are also due to come to an end this summer but with options for a further season which have to be taken up by the end of May.

Striker David McGoldrick’s terms are also up in the summer but with no option for an additional year.

Elsewhere, former Blues skipper Carlos Edwards, 39, has joined Thurlow Nunn Division One side Woodbridge Town.

No real surprise. Good squad player and deserving of new deal. Personally, I prefer Kenlock, but Knudsen has improved in recent months - so we'll deserved extension to deal.

Been our best defender this season, fully deserved and continues to improve. Looks a fantastic centre half and expect him to move inside given time

I think he has come on leaps and bounds since he joined us and is now the best left sided defender we have.

Great news now let's get Bart signed up

He has done well and pleased to see him here for another year. Presume though that taking up the option means he hasn't been offered a new contract with better or longer terms. Concerned that Evans is continuing to try and run the club on the cheap. Not good letting contracts run down on valuable assets. Reckon McGoldrick will sign for someone else next season on a free, when just 3 years ago he was worth £7m or so. Also surely he should be offering a big new contract to Bart.

These one year options are great for the club. Presumably we will now try and get something longer sorted out with Jonas and if we can't then we will look to sell him at the end of this season.

Well deserved has played really well this season and for me hasn't been as bad as some suggest.

The irony and sheer bemusement of opening this update up and seeing a video of Lee Johnson smiling and celebrating a win over the Manure in the cup .....just watching last nights highlights and to see the ball boy so ecstatic and grown men cry as they hug their sons who are in wonderland .....should be my Club.,could be my Club but never under a mick -I don't take these competitions seriously - so so frustrated and saddened for my lad #mickandthelostgenerationlegacy

Ps....Hope the next period of yourcontract is a more successful one for us all Knudsen ....hope you sign the contract

@cornishblue

the discrepancy between our club and bristol city has never been so big. A brilliant chairman that backs the club, a young manager that is trying to play football with the ball (45% possession against Man U) the 1st team with regular playing youth academy products and a club very much on the up.. and then there is Ipswich.

Even this thread turns into a debate on McCarthy..... Well done Jonas, he has really come on this season and fully deserves the plaudits and new contract.

Because MM is not ITFC and never will be

Well said Penguin & vanmunt! That's exactly what ‘a lot' of the ‘pro Mick' & ‘best interests of the club' supporters just aint getting.

The right decision, as Jonas has always been solid enough but has impressed me more this season than since he signed, especially when he covered so well as part of a back-three when needed. He's full of enthusiasm and the right sort of character, so well done to him for getting a contract extension.

Cat/Penguin. What a load of rubbish. Not ITFC? Because he is northern? And don't talk rubbish about the ITFC way. We were a nice footballing side under Robson and had some good spells under Burley. Other than that, we haven't played the way you seem to wish for in donkeys years. Accept we are a small club with a small budget and any manager who gives us a chance of the play offs is doing a damned good job. Let go of the past, it's gone. I was at Wembley in 78 for both games and the UEFA Final. If I can be realistic of where and what we are now compared to then, surely you can too?

Geddis78 every fan should start the season believing their team can win the league if not what's the point of going? Leicester proved that. We are a small club with a small budget that's the Ipswich way and you know that better than most you've seen what a small club can do.

Geddis78- it's all about opinions on here ‘mate', McCarthy's gone past the point of no return for me. A man with your understanding of football will be familier with the well used saying - “playing the game the right way”. Personally don't like Mick's tactics or his style, nothing against the bloke.
I was to young to attend the finals you mentioned, but I do remember them. The Butcher years was my best time of following the blues, maybe an age thing, although we were top flight, we were not successful!. Two games that I attended that have stuck in my mind was Norwich and Oxford away, both in 85 (from memory) but for the wrong reasons.

Cat, absolutely fine for you or any other fan to not like the style of play. Just spare us the crap about the ‘Ipswich way'. It simply doesn't exist.
