Want to Play at Portman Road?
Monday, 8th Jan 2018 14:23

Town are after players for this year’s Portman Cup in which fans are given the opportunity to grace the hallowed Portman Road turf.

This year’s game takes place on Friday 27th April and offers supporters the chance to be part of a team playing a 90-minute match managed by a Town legend.

Last summer saw a team managed by Jason Dozzell thrash a side led by Micky Stockwell 10-5.

As well as the opportunity to grace the Portman Road turf, the day includes use of the dressing rooms and dugouts, personalised kit, award presentations, a post-match meal for the player and a guest, a commemorative DVD and a photo CD.

If you’re interested in taking part in the Portman Cup, which costs £250 + VAT per person, or want more information, call Town’s sales team on 01473 400594 or email sales@itfc.co.uk.

When the headline came up on my phone I thought we'd stooped to an all time low!

This is a new idea. They can't sign anyone, so instead of paying transfer fees and wages etc you can just turn up on a Saturday and you'd get a game. It's a bit like your old Sunday morning pub team. All got a hangover, bringing the dirty old kebab up on the sidelines followed by a couple of fags. They really are taking it back to grassroots. Happy days.

Mind you, the opportunity to use the same dressing room as I.T.F.C legends such as Skuse and Sears? And fish and chips and a photo?

You temptress Evans you......

...and end up injured for 6 months probably like most of the 1st team.

The hallowed turf as you call is having less appeal every year you are here Evans. If you can't afford to run it properly, move it on to someone who would show more passion and interest.

have played this a couple of times- would recommend it to anyone. Town really look after you and win or lose it is very enjoyable.
There's normally a few 20 year olds that can be to good to get an earlier reducer on but average is late 30s early 40s and a decent enough standard

Now come on seaside, didn't we win the champions of Ipswich trophy when we beat the reserves pre season?

Don't pay the £250 just hold off and be patient. How are are going, in 7-10 years Ipswich at Portman road will be a regular fixture for most local pub sides.

Anyway.
Should the protests that have been spoken about on this site come to fruition, you'll be able to run around the pitch and get in the dug out for free this Saturday!

........ just turn up, 50 years of age or under - even playing in Wellies accepted providing you're a 'real bloke'.

The First Team beckons, and welcomes you.

Must have been how the club got Coke and Toure.

Do we need to bring our own soap Marcus or will you be in the shower room selling soap in order to gain some extra quid?

Can TWTD please ask the club how the pitch can be guaranteed available for this and not guaranteed for the Suffolk Senior and Premier Cup finals? (ps I'm still waiting for, as promised in the close season survey, e-mail contact regarding TWTD becoming too sycophant to the club)

This is a fantastic idea that gives players, who are nowhere near professional standard, the chance to play at a proper stadium.

I hear that Iorfa thoroughly enjoyed his turn on Saturday and said it was well worth the £300.
