Gerken One of Four Changes as Blues Face Leeds
Saturday, 13th Jan 2018 14:31

Dean Gerken starts in goal for the first time in the league this season as the Blues face Leeds at Portman Road, one of four changes from the team which lost 1-0 to Sheffield United in the FA Cup last weekend.

Regular keeper Bartosz Bialkowski is out with a minor calf injury, while Cole Skuse, Joe Garner and Martyn Waghorn come back into the starting line-up for Luke Hyam, Kevin Bru and Freddie Sears, who are all subs.

Young defender Chris Smith is on an inexperienced bench having been recalled from his loan spell at Chelmsford.

Leeds make seven changes from the side which lost 2-1 to Newport County in the FA Cup last week.

Town: Gerken, Iorfa, Chambers (c), Knudsen, Kenlock, Skuse, Connolly, Waghorn, McGoldrick, Celina, Garner. Subs: M Crowe, Hyam, Sears, Drinan, Bru, McDonnell, C Smith.

Leeds: Wiedwald, Berardi, Jansson, Cooper (c), Anita, Phillips, O'Kane, Cibicki, Hernandez, Alioski, Roofe. Subs: Lonergan, Lasogga, Grot, Dallas, Sacko, Shaughnessy, Klich. Referee: Robert Jones (Merseyside).

That's why we've got so many injuries, Mick has got them all beating the c**p out of each other in training!

Unfortunately Flores turning down the Stoke job is the most exciting bit of football news I've heard as an Ipswich fan in months!!!

Weak defence and nothing much on the bench looks ominous for us.

If we are apparently in the middle of an injury crisis and we are playing crap and not shooting even on goal, then why isn't our tactical genius of a manager playing our youngsters ? Whilst it's true that not one academy produced player has cemented a place in the team since November 2012 under his tenure and clearly doesn't believe in our youth policy, where have all our youngsters finished ? People say we have a good crop coming through but name me one that is flying. instead we are thinking of short term or loanees..doesn't really make sense does it ? Under a productive manager, our youngsters would be coming through now and it's not as though we are a brilliant team and our youngsters can't break in. It is very baffling but highlights the grim regime at the helm and highlights the dreadful football as usual offered up by McCarthy.

Let's face it Bart will go in this window so let's keep playing Dean he's hungry to impress, which is what we need so let's give the likes of Drinian and McDonnell a chance, at the moment we've nothing to lose and they'll work their socks off right now!
