U23s Host Sheffield United in Premier League Cup Monday, 22nd Jan 2018 14:45 Luke Hyam, Tristan Nydam and Aaron Drinan are set to be involved when Town’s U23s face Sheffield United at Portman Road in the Premier League Cup this evening (KO 7pm). Gerard Nash’s team, who have won both their previous games in the competition and are unbeaten since mid-October, are currently second in their group on goal difference behind Aston Villa, who have played a match more. Town beat the Blades 1-0 in the Premier League Cup fixture at Bramall Lane in September, Ben Folami scoring the only goal. The South Yorkshiremen are set to include striker Ched Evans in their side as the Wales international continues his comeback after an ankle operation. Admission to the Cobbold Stand only costs £3 for adults and £1 for concessions, while entry is free for season ticket holders and members.
The Premier League Cup, which replaced the U21 Premier League Cup last season, emulates the format of the Champions League with 32 teams involved in the group stage and the top two in each going through to the last 16. From there the ties will be one-off knockout games with extra-time and penalties if required. Last year’s competition was won by Swansea with Town having gone out in the group stages.
