McCarthy Issues Apology for Language
Monday, 19th Feb 2018 13:42

Boss Mick McCarthy has issued an apology for his language while celebrating the Blues’ goal at Carrow Road yesterday, however, he reiterated that the comments, which were caught by TV cameras, were not aimed at Town’s travelling fans.

McCarthy’s “f*** off” after skipper Luke Chambers headed in what appeared to be Town’s winning goal in the 89th minute was widely interpreted to be a reaction to some supporters’ earlier derogatory chants aimed towards him following a substitution.

“It was a big moment for us, coming so late in the game. You can get carried away in situations like that,” McCarthy explained to the club site.

“To be honest, I forgot the cameras were there and can capture every word now. You don’t think about that during the game. For those who were offended by my language, I apologise.

“I’d like to reiterate though that my comments were not aimed at anyone. It was just a reaction to the goal and what it meant at that time.”

Outers using anything to beat the guy with. Stop stating you 'know' what he was thinking, who it was aimed at. Stick to footballing facts and support for your cause might grow.

I can't see what the problem is the same fans that are upset because he showed som passion would be upset if he just sat there and did nothing I know what I want to see

Too much out of nothing. Does it really matter? Even if it was a message to Town fans I still don't care. If he was celebrating Norwich goal like this then I wouldn't like it. I'm more concerned about awful football in 2nd half then this.

Mick is Taking Le Tiss!

Just been reading Matt Le Tissier's autobiography, available to buy here (just 99p on Kindle): https://www.amazon.co.uk/Taking-Tiss-Matt-Tissier-ebook/dp/B002RI9U04/

There have been a couple of bits already that I found rather relevant to our club!

Firstly here:
The final straw came after an FA Cup tie at home to Port Vale in front of a crowd of just 11,000. The low turn out probably had more effect on the board than the mass protest by fans holding up red cards bearing the word ‘GO'. Once supporters stop coming to games the manager has no chance. If fans want the boss out, then stay away. If the club is losing money it'll act quick enough. Trust me. It wasn't a nice atmosphere to play in and we were lucky to get a 1-1 draw. My feeling was that the sooner the manager went, the better it'd be for me and the club.

And secondly here:
We were struggling for goals and for any sort of creative spark, so Ian Branfoot dropped me. He left me out against Arsenal and for that Sheffield United match, as well as Coventry and both legs against Shrewsbury. It made me feel pretty good to know I was being sacrificed for the mighty Paul Moody, a lovely lad who been plucked from non-league and was clearly out of his depth. I was probably the only player who could have lifted us above the mediocre but Branfoot left me out in favour of hard-working but very ordinary players who didn't possess a fraction of my talent. That might sound arrogant but I'm just calling it as I, and thousands of Saints fans, saw it. They made their voices heard with red-card protests and marches and letters to the Echo.

It made me think of Gleeson running around yesterday like a headless chicken instead of Celina being out on the pitch ready to slot one of those ripe free kicks near the edge of box past Gunn. And doesn't Gunn's dad look like a Sith Lord now!

Had a think about McCarthy antics. Who can honestly say they've scored a goal or seen Town score a goal and screamed “F*** Off”. You shout “Get in” or “Get the F*** in there”.

You only ever shout F*** Off to the opposition fans to taunt, anger and rub it in. That's exactly why McCarthy did, just to his own fans 😂😂

If as a paying customer I am told to F Off by the management when i complain, I never go back. Cannot see much difference here.

Sick of reading all the negative comments about the manager and the team. A lot of teams who are in worse position than us get a better support. How many who write negative comments are armchair supporters or scum supporters

Fair play Mick apology accepted we all make mistakes and at that moment in time it shows your passion for the game I said exactly the same but that was at the dinner table to freinds and family (narwwidge supportors) while I was rudely watching it on my phone having lunch.

I didnt apologise though

Celina should play up front with Garner. Garner is great at getting free kicks in dangerous positions, Celina then steps up and puts them away, simples!!!

I honestly cant believe this situation is still ongoing, McCarthy should have been sacked last night or first thing this morning. Just goes to show what our club means to the man who owns it and to the people who run it. Very poor show in my opinion.

Oh, and as for your apology, you can shove it.

Some differing, yet non the less valid points made about Mick's outburst.

I don't think that is a case of the ' Mick outers ' ( which includes myself ) jumping on the bandwagon to have a go at him at every opportunity, although I'm sure there are a few.

I also think that perhaps the 200 plus comments regarding his language on the previous post would have been far fewer had we been in with a shout of promotion

However, this is Ipswich town football club.
A club that has always had pride in it's reputation of mixing with the big boys on occasion with a sense of fair play, gentlemanly conduct and most importantly of all, a family club.

I'm sure that there weren't any children that either heard or lip read Mick's words, but should his actions have been aimed at the Ipswich fans ( and yes, I realise he was receiving abuse from certain sections ) surely this has to be his last season in charge.

And although I hear the 'snowflake' and the 'passion' posts, my personal opinion is that this kind of behaviour is not acceptable at our club

I'd say to any fan whose blubbing about him swearing at them, don't give it out if you can't take it back!

This club is being cannibalised from within! Unfortunately the 'brain dead savages' watching from the 'outside' are unable to nasal the 'foul smell' drifting their way!

blueheartXT - bet you ddn't tell the people round the table to F@cK off? I've watched this video several times and the anger in his face and how he says it is very unprofessional and certainly directed to someone rather than open in the air he actually stares as someone or a group of people

I've said it before and I will say it again, we need to be careful what we wish for.

Look at West Brom & Stoke ( Pulis > Pardew & Hughes > Lambert)

There's a line in the sand, on one side is passion, on the other is unacceptable behaviour and he keeps stepping over it. Where's Evans?

Wow,people still defend this idiot,it is all opinions i agree, but people still backing him makes me wonder where our club is going,we are a dreadful side, going backwards faster than ever before, yes be loyal to our club, but come on everybody, this guy is toxic,he lies all the time and he genuinely doesnt care about the supporters, whether he swore at us yesterday or not(and he clearly swore at us),the point is he has to go,yes it should of been today,or even last night, and yesterday was it for me,im loyal,i love our club, but Wednesday night i wont be attending on the grounds i really thought he would of done the decent thing today and walked, but his arrogance shines through again,i cant watch Wednesday night in support of some of the young children who were at Carrot Road yesterday who he clearly swore at.
