McCarthy Issues Apology for Language
Monday, 19th Feb 2018 13:42

Boss Mick McCarthy has issued an apology for his language while celebrating the Blues’ goal at Carrow Road yesterday, however, he reiterated that the comments, which were caught by TV cameras, were not aimed at Town’s travelling fans.

McCarthy’s “f*** off” after skipper Luke Chambers headed in what appeared to be Town’s winning goal in the 89th minute was widely interpreted to be a reaction to some supporters’ earlier derogatory chants aimed towards him following a substitution.

“It was a big moment for us, coming so late in the game. You can get carried away in situations like that,” McCarthy explained to the club site.

“To be honest, I forgot the cameras were there and can capture every word now. You don’t think about that during the game. For those who were offended by my language, I apologise.

“I’d like to reiterate though that my comments were not aimed at anyone. It was just a reaction to the goal and what it meant at that time.”

My tolerance towards tolerant idiots needs drastic action! Geddis you really are 'a Marcus Evans golden ticket'!

Blueboy, where have you been for the last however many years? We have been a slightly above mid table championship club for ages now. Why is the club dying now and not say 10 years ago? The only difference for me is how p1ssed off the fans are. I wish that could change and we could get 20000 back at Portman Road week in week out again.

McCarthy you could not tell the truth if it hit you in the face!! For those who defend him clueless!!
Sad times for a once great club linked to Sir Bobby Robson and Sir Alf Ramsey at least I am heartened by the fact McCarthy will never become a Sir as he is not fit to walk in the shadows of the two great Managers mentioned. ME it saddens me you did not deal with this situation, however I am not surprised as you are truly the invisible man with no real heart or passion for ITFC.

Would Mick McCarthy really apologise off his own back, very unlikely. He's been told to. I think this will hurt Mick having to apologise.

And Warktheline, we have already established that you don't go any more. Your reasons are perfectly valid, so just as I won't criticise you for supporting the team via BBC Suffolk and this forum, perhaps you should refrain from having a pop at me for still going. And sitting through games like Burton!

The fact is everyone who supports the club wants it to thrive and achieve great things

This will only happens if we can push the academy forward at a much larger and faster way or spend way over our means

If I was the owner and this is what I was getting and already making losses every year

I'd be very reluctant to lose any more that's where we are

Mick has never had proper funds but yet realistic

Whoever replaces him will get no more
Well less if more people choose not to renew season tickets then we'll be left with the true fans who truly have Ipswich Town through our blood and the we will move forward support your team club manager and owner and eventually the cream will rise to the top

What a load of hypocritical wimps on this site. Hands up anybody who has never sworn at a football match.

Nothing is predictable at this our club. ME might give him an extension just to be as belligerent as MM. If he stays I will not be surprised. If he leaves I will get smashed and start getting down to Portman Road again.

I seem to recall Ipswich die hard fans calling for the Great Sir Bobby Robsons head. The Cobbold's told them where to go.......and got behind the manager.

ChestnutSe......

Really? McCarthy is no Bobby Robson. What an insult. If you had been about at the time you would realise that the situations are incomparable.

Know your history before you start insulting the great man in this way. Shame on you.

Gunnerblue, another overly sensitive response. In no way did ChesuntSe insult Bobby Robson. He has merely reminded some of the younger guys that Bobby went through a tough time before the glory years. Prob not a lot on here know that.

R ranger that is true but how many managers do you know that have had the same treatment and then given the up yours sign to the clubs supporters, that is the argument. I can't think of one so high profile but even if there is I bet he didn't still have a job. Keane gets sacked for giving it to the fans, jim gets sacked for beating Norwich. Mick seems to get a free ride no matter what the circumstances. He's had his time.

THe club dont care at all about fending the paying supporters and have no standards anymore. This isn't the first incident after all.David Sheepshanks must be embarrassed to see this. If they think they can get the majority of fans to put up with this and renew their season tickets they are deluded.

Geddis, 'sat through Burton game!'.....so who's the fool, you or I?
Geddis, a more intellectual question...who's damaging the club more, you or I?

Yes I am sensitive. The Bobby Robson incident was a minor storm over in a matter of days. Micks insults to the fans and boring football has gone on for two years. If you are going to use examples get them in context.

MM is driving the fans away Sir Bobby got them in, in droves.

I can't believe some cretin on here has come out with 'Be careful what you wish for'. How low does this club have to sink before you blind support for this washed out has been finally gives up. Just a word about this so called apology, why was there not a statement from our glorious leader, you know, the faceless absent owner, was he there yesterday? I very much doubt it, but we have to blindly support him because he allegedly puts 6 million in every year, out of his vast fortune, to keep the club afloat. That he, or to be precise, the PLC probably claw back many times that amount in tax relief is neither here or there. Still, when they give McCarthy another two year contract in the summer you can celebrate by renewing your season tickets and pay the increased cost safe in the knowledge that next season you will be getting more of what YOU wish for

What I find really sad now is that blues fans are now arguing at blues fans. Understandable under the current circumstances and I just hope for everyone's sake whether you want it or not is that when McCarthy goes and they appoint a new manager, we can all get behind the new fella and give him a decent amount of time to improve things. We are patient supporters but patience has now run out with the current management team. Yesterday should have been the last straw

I thought the reaction of some of our supporters when the Iorfa substitution was made was appalling. The Norwich fans loved it, we played right into their hands. How stupid to instigate a chant like that with the score at 0-0 in a local derby, at the hands of our greatest rivals. I didn't agree with the substitutions, but the reaction of some of our fans was even worse. I don't blame MM for his reaction - he's clearly had enough of the foul mouthed abuse and will be off at the end of the season - be careful what you wish for...

Warktheline, I am not going to fall out with you. I pays my money in full knowledge that there will be some good games, some average games and some indescribable games like Burton. If that makes me a fool, so be it but you can then accuse every fan in the country at a club that is not particularly successful. I am certainly not damaging the club and neither is any other fan. There are 3 issues. 1. It is not a level playing field. On Sunday, we had rejects like Gleeson, Spence and Iorfa playing plus 3 loanees. Teams like Derby have a bench that would all start for us. 2. The relationship between McCarthy and the fans has completely broken down 3. Traditional fans like your good self have fallen out of love with the club. Only 2 is fixable for now which may lead to 3 improving. I stick up for McCarthy but accept he has to go. I just worry that whoever replaces him will not have his undeniable network to attract some of the great loan signings we have had or get value for money signings with no budget.
