McCarthy Will Take a View on Emmanuel in Summer
Friday, 9th Mar 2018 17:29

Town boss Mick McCarthy says he’ll take a view on Josh Emmanuel's future in the summer with the 20-year-old on-loan right-back currently part of a Rotherham side in terrific form.

Emmanuel joined the Millers on a season-long loan along with Kieffer Moore - who subsequently moved on to Barnsley in January - in July and after a first half of the campaign in which he suffered one or two injuries has been a regular fixture in Paul Warne's side more recently.

The South Yorkshiremen, who are fourth in League One, are currently on a run of seven successive wins with Emmanuel, who in total has made 24 starts, having played every game in that streak.

“Great, fantastic for him,” McCarthy said. “There are a lot of people who have watched him and we’ll take the view on him as to whether he’s going to come back and play.

“If he’s not going to come back and play, then he might have to stay out again or do something else. He’s got to come and get back in the team. But he’s done well, he’s had a good season.”

Town may well have a vacancy for a right-back in the summer with Dominic Iorfa, who has vied with Jordan Spence for the role this season, on loan from Wolves.

“I’m going to do what all the managers do to me,” McCarthy added. “‘We’ll bring him back, we’ll have a look at him, bring him into pre-season and then we’ll gauge from there’. That’s exactly what we’ll do.”

Londoner Emmanuel is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2019 with the club having an option to keep him for a further year.

No brainer really, we haven't got a better full -back now let alone the start of next season! From what I have seen he is as good as Spence and much better than I-awful. Hopefully, as you say mickymacsbarmyarmy, won't be MM decision to make.

So confirmation then that MM will be here next season, just in case there was any doubt!

What's happened to Kieffer Moore since his move? Don't seem to have heard much about him lately.

Swn98 - SunStroke .... that's what it is. No other possible reason for being so disorientated.

McCarthy main objectives in recent times have been as follows:

1. Keep taking the huge pay cheque.

2. Be as antagonistic as possible to fans.

3. Preach and Practice boredom at every opportunity.

Hugely successful on all three fronts.

Does he care about ITFC ? - not a chance - other than for the Pay Cheque.

......... in other words - up yours - Season Ticket holders, or otherwise - I, Mick McCarthy, have made the decision that I am staying here - no one else has a say in it.

Definitely worth a chance next season,no worse than what we currently have.
Does anyone know if Keiffer Moore has actually scored at all yet for Barnsley.

Josh is playing well and has improved with regular football. Still has lapses in concentration and positioning issues but really improving. Maybe too risky to MM but still has potential

What's the point of an academy if you don't give them a chance. You never know if they can make it unless you do. Josh looked good enough from the stands last season let alone this.

Oh for the days of George Burley where he would come out regularly and say a lad had deserved a shot and publicly announce that he would give them a run of games to get to grips with 1st team football. Probably Mick uncovers jobbing professionals and George gave the chance to players like Kieron, Zaha, Bale and Walcott. And George learnt that from Sir Bobby.

Mick learns from no one cos he knows everything he thinks that matters. The fact that he seems to enjoy being in the shadows of these Club greats along with Sir Alf, without even trying to emulate their achievements, tells you all you need to know about the man. We do deserve better and so does Josh.

If you are still here we will never see any of our youngsters play for the club unless of course they are dumb Irish gits and can pass the real blokes test. Leave now please and at least give us a chance to improve from the utter dross you give us every week.

Swn98. we might have 5000 season ticket holders next season. Who would pay to watch the boring dross served up under the micks watch????? Don't get me wrong I think mick is probably a good bloke but his footy is utter garbage and we will not progress as long as he is here.

Well said PortmanTerrorist, I couldn't agree more. In my opinion, just from reading his comments and together with his poor track history on giving academy players here a proper chance, Mccarthy has already made up his mind about Josh's future and it doesn't involve ITFC. I could be wrong but I Very much doubt it.

He isn't good enough. Let him go in the summer.

When he was sent out on loan you could make an argument that he needed a run in someone's first team to gain experience. Well, that's done now, he has the experience, let's put him in our first team next season and forget about signing loan right-backs.

Give youth a chance. It's in the plan but doesn't materialise often under mick
