Ex-England International Campbell Linked With Town Interview
Friday, 27th Apr 2018 00:10

Former England defender Sol Campbell is reportedly set to be interviewed by the Blues as owner Marcus Evans continues his search for a new manager.

According to the Daily Telegraph, ex-Arsenal and Tottenham man Campbell is said to have been put forward as a potential candidate by David Pleat - known to be a long-time associate of Evans and certainly someone whose advice the Town owner will be seeking as he looks for his new boss - who worked with him during his time as Spurs’ director of football.

It’s anticipated that discussions between the club and Campbell will take place in the next few weeks.

The 43-year-old former centre-half has previously said he is keen to become a manager and was recently interviewed for the Oxford United job but lost out to former Charlton boss Karl Robinson.

Despite his impressive playing career, given his lack of experience in management Campbell would be appear unlikely to be in serious contention.

Evans is understood to have made contact with a wide selection of potential new bosses, while the club is believed to have received a considerable number of applications.

Speaking in his interview earlier in the week, the Town owner said he would be conducting a thorough recruitment process and expects to name his new manager in late May or early June.

Former Blues striker Shefki Kuqi, who TWTD recently interviewed regarding his interest in the Town job, is the new bookies’ favourite.

The Finland international striker is now at 2-1 with Bet Victor with Wigan boss Paul Cook out to 5-1, Campbell and Tony Mowbray at 10-1 and Shrewsbury manager Paul Hurst, ex-Rangers, Brentford and Nottingham Forest boss Mark Warburton and Taiwan’s Gary White all at 16-1.

Early favourite Danny Cowley has now drifted out to 25-1 having signed his new deal at Lincoln City.

Article here about him. Coaching at QPR at the moment. Recently missed out on the Grimsby job.

Can see him in a supportive role (Assistant Manager) with someone like Harry Redknapp or Chris Coleman in charge. Don't think it's a good replacement combo for MM and TC though.

What a shambles today has been. Redknapp, Campbell & Coleman linked and as much as I love Shefki, I'd be equally as disappointed if he got the job. Very negative about most of the bookies' favourites. If there's any possibility it can happen then it has to be Paul Cook at present.

@TractorCam (and even to most of you *real* ever-luving ever-credulous ITFC "muppets" out there- :-D)

Absolutely concur... but ohhh remember the newest Suffolk hype :-) :

"IN MARCUS WE TRUST!"

....he will get it "right" this time! :-) if only because the super shy & media-phobic owner of ours:

1) Very obviously knows *everything* there possible is to know about the game of football! ....including who "best" to employ underneath him in said ownership of a modern-forward-thinking & ambitious football club, ehhh exactly as history has shown in his *glorified* 12 years in the game. :-) lol :-)

2) Shockingly, according to most here, he appears to have "won them over" by *simply* at long last popping out the woodwork & presenting himself as a caring, 500% BELIEVABLE & genuine 'Proper Bloke'.... in this his OWN carefully self-orchestrated, non-live & thus with pre-arranged known-beforehand questions 25 min interview yesterday... and almost solely because of *that* very nifty Public Relation STUNT of his, well thus indirectly inferred by many here: That ehhh whatever unkept promises, outright porkies (mostly through his immaculate clueless mouthpiece IM) detrimental decisions, lack of decisions or way too-long-underway decisions he most *certainly* is "guilty of" in those 12 years here (including seemingly not being able "to find" the extreme petty cash -- for a 700 times millionaire -- to merely keep the once renowned good turf at PR in any way resembling decent condition this year! -- is more or less "All Forgotten"???!!! :-) lol :-)

Bottomline: OK enough with the jest! cause seriously folks and as I said pre-interview: "Talk is dirt cheap" And thus I will ONLY judge Marcus by what he actually does, not on what he says!" ....but naturally I too *cautiously *hope Marcus really do stay true to most of what he so elegantly said & promised yesterday (although for the umpteenth time: It makes little to noooo sense, in him continuing to proclaim that he is not remotely looking to sell the joint.... if he:

A) after all financial/tax-deductuctible corporate shenanigans is done & complete, is STILL is losing money annually on it! And thereby also increasing it's astronomical debt to himself btw!

B) No longer shows any real "willingness" to allocate enough money to TRULY make the squad more competitive in the transfer windows (although as I've stated many times before : Lots of money being available is in & of itself is NOT the key here -- like for instance Huddersfiled & Millwall has shown ever so well in the last 2 championship campaigns -- simply a winning mindset & tactics is!!! Period!!!
But imho we at ITFC currently simply lack sufficient amount of *reliable* i.e. non INJURY PRONE talent! also when merely compared to those other penniless clubs doing wonders, in our btw also largely by MM "negative-football-brainwashed" current squad, to compete for promotion... no matter who the next manager is ! That is if he due to ME's apparently continuance of a very tightaZzzed budget is unable to improve the sheer talent in the squad by strengthening it (through something OTHER than vast loanee transactions)!

@MicksZzzTactics

1) he did get Keane & Jewell wrong but got something right by appointing MM and TC. The people we have been linked with brings back the phrase "be careful what you wish for". We can expect one of these links to land.

2) we will see this season what the situation is with money. I can't imagine the budget changing much & need to pray that our squad stays fully fit. The problem was never MM it was the constraints he was under.

Paper Talk Rubbish! Also glad the Cowleys are all but out of the picture! Not going to be Harry Rednap, Enjoying his golf too much!

As for the Next Town boss, for me there has been a constant candidate, and that is Paul Cook, would be my 1st choice. I dont think i can see Evans paying Compensation to any club, so will get someone out of work IMO!

Interview Keiron Dyer who actually has some links with the club.
Shefki has a link to the club and actually has some management experience.
Those two probably aren't the answer, but I hope we aren't considering Sol Campbell.
Paul Hirst is my top pick, but there have been some other good names mentioned.
