Ex-England International Campbell Linked With Town Interview
Friday, 27th Apr 2018 00:10

Former England defender Sol Campbell is reportedly set to be interviewed by the Blues as owner Marcus Evans continues his search for a new manager.

According to the Daily Telegraph, ex-Arsenal and Tottenham man Campbell is said to have been put forward as a potential candidate by David Pleat - known to be a long-time associate of Evans and certainly someone whose advice the Town owner will be seeking as he looks for his new boss - who worked with him during his time as Spurs’ director of football.

It’s anticipated that discussions between the club and Campbell will take place in the next few weeks.

The 43-year-old former centre-half has previously said he is keen to become a manager and was recently interviewed for the Oxford United job but lost out to former Charlton boss Karl Robinson.

Despite his impressive playing career, given his lack of experience in management Campbell would be appear unlikely to be in serious contention.

Evans is understood to have made contact with a wide selection of potential new bosses, while the club is believed to have received a considerable number of applications.

Speaking in his interview earlier in the week, the Town owner said he would be conducting a thorough recruitment process and expects to name his new manager in late May or early June.

Former Blues striker Shefki Kuqi, who TWTD recently interviewed regarding his interest in the Town job, is the new bookies’ favourite.

The Finland international striker is now at 2-1 with Bet Victor with Wigan boss Paul Cook out to 5-1, Campbell and Tony Mowbray at 10-1 and Shrewsbury manager Paul Hurst, ex-Rangers, Brentford and Nottingham Forest boss Mark Warburton and Taiwan’s Gary White all at 16-1.

Early favourite Danny Cowley has now drifted out to 25-1 having signed his new deal at Lincoln City.

He's only being interviewed, we should be interviewing everyone possible who is interested to get the right person in.

Ffs everyone calm down....

All and his dog will be linked and ME will have to treat every application seriously but I am sure 90% of the bookies list has no chance.
ME will have a 2 or 3 people already in mind but will see what others say and bring to the table. Him and MM had a great relationship and it wouldn't surprise me if MM will have already gave advice before he announced he was leaving.

This is the worst I can imagine. Even Delia Smith takeover with Bryan Gunn as new manager would be better.

Btw , Ipswich Town FC appears to be a very much sought after job. A “ proper Club”

Surely, after what he said in the interview, ME must be looking to appoint someone who the fans will welcome and have some faith in.

Ex-players with little or no experience are unlikely to fit the bill

But, most of these links will be just press-led speculation. They have to find something to write about....

Bit of over reaction here, he's not the worst manager we could imagine. Don't want to start naming names but there are loads of ex-players who'd be less suitable for the position. I am not saying he is a good appointment but there are many worse. We have a few ex-players who'd cause a furore if they were linked with managing the club. Or Norwich players (Jeremy Goss, Efan Ekoku and co).

Imagine the reaction here if either one of them was interviewed for the position :)

Hahahahahaha

We're in such turmoil.

Still, a ready made chant for that t... from Euro 2012 when us England fans aimed abuse at him pretty much every minute of every day for his pathetic comments on Panorama.

Absolute melt.

We're in a right mess. WELL PLAYED.

Good grief this is the worst rumour so far. The guy is completely deluded and mad. Can't think of many worse appointment. He comes across as not quite all there. Would rather have Bryan Gunn in charge than Sol Campbell. What horrible news to wake up to this morning!

Please DO NOT employ this lunatic!!

I doubt as has been stated he's a serious contender, I also hope Shefki isn't. That ME wants to wait until after the season ends hopefully rules both of them out.

No managerial record at all. Just can't see it working...

Stephan Kuntz as director of football, his countryman and current German under 20's manager Ralf Minge as manager?

Leo Muff coach?

As much chance of this happening as Redknapp overseeing Coleman and Campbell.

David Pleat another Marcus Evans advisor trying to put his mate upfront ???
Harry did not put his mate upfront, he put Himself instead !!
Who are your other advisors Marcus ???

More credence to it if it comes from the Telegraph...but not for me. 2-1 really is surprisingly short odds on Shefki though, that would be a gamble as well.

Wasn't it 2 weeks ago a certain bookie stopped taking bets on Pardew?...I think everyone needs to take all of these “stories” with a massive pinch of salt.

I just hope Marcus doesn't drag his feet too much..another 4 or 5 weeks is a long time and i'd hate to miss out on someone like Steijn for the sake of waiting to see who else is available..if he's got 2 or 3 in mind then I hope he's approaching them now and not in another month otherwise we're going to end up with the last turkey in the shop.

Shefki would be a dream appointment - “IF” it worked out well but it would be a gamble - that said no more of a gamble than anyone tbh because nothing is certain in football..we all thought Roy Keane and £20m would guarantee us promotion, remember?

Warmly welcome to the uber esteemed "Let's make an hateful personal attack against @MZT" club, dear @BlueandTruesince82

But alas comrade, since I can only bow to your unprecedented shrewd perceptiveness & Sherlockian deductive reasoning, I hereby confess!!!:

Aye I'm indeed a budgie in disguise!... who ehhh somehow have conned my way to 2400+ upvotes over the years here at dead-awesome & super objective TWTD... Hmmmm and doing so SOLELY by constantly being a boot-licking kowtower inputting & uploading *all* the 'political correct' & populistic ITFC related things *all* the time!!! :-) lol :-)

Like today's contribution here on this article for instance. Yes it's meant to be both *lightly* provoking as well as *not-so-lightly* thought-provoking too!... and to be perfectly honest I had personally calculated with about 50 downvotes my now comrade!
But uhuu! I see it's currently not at a mere tenth of that???!!! So APPARENTLY some good Suffolk folks must either A) have partly rediscovered their senses or rediscovered "The Light" since yesterday noon's *somewhat* Zzzilly mass-euphoria upon Marvelous Marcus's self-orchestrated interview with it's granted: Quite wonderful "believability" to it & accompanying 'Promises of Eden' (but ehhh seemingly no real bigger "allowances" for the next manager than in previous years?!) .....or B) alternatively they simply decided they couldn't really get themselves to downvote my post here since even after you strip away the pure provocatory jest in it, well then it basically still had a little too much FACTUALITY about it perhaps??? :-) lol :-)

I any event you dear @BlueandTruesince82 are quite joyfully venturing into a both very dangerous area & imho also very repulsive area with YOUR 1st post on this article comrade.... which fundamentally is nothing short of a sarcasm-bereft nasty piece of football fan related new-wave "MCCARTHYISM"!!! (And to our younger readers: No no that coined term has zero relation to our just departed great guru & One-And-Only savior Mick... but rather to the heinous practice of making accusations of subversion or even treason without proper regard for evidence!!! The term broadly refers to US Senator Joseph McCarthy, including his as head of the 'Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations' ultra grotesque "investigative methods", and originated in the period in the US known as the 'Second Red Scare', lasting from around 1947 to 1956).

Hail Delia!
