Woolfenden Recalled From Bromley Loan
Friday, 27th Apr 2018 11:54

Town have recalled defender Luke Woolfenden from his loan spell with Vanarama National League side Bromley.

The 19-year-old will go straight into the squad for the trip to Reading tomorrow with the Blues short of right-sided defenders. Dominic Iorfa is out for the season with a groin problem, while Barry Cotter has also been struggling for fitness.

Woolfenden has made 17 starts and three sub appearances for the Ravens having joined them just before Christmas, but will now miss out on playing in next month’s FA Trophy final against Brackley at Wembley.

Bromley boss Neil Smith paid tribute to Woolfenden: “Luke has been brilliant since he came in, for such a young lad.

"He’s played a massive part in getting us to Wembley and to be called back to Ipswich’s first team is a big achievement in respect of his hard work with us.

"Luke will always be remembered and welcome here and we look forward to seeing his career prosper.”

The academy product, who plays at right-back or centre-half, has made two appearances for the Blues, as a sub at Luton in the Carabao Cup in August before starting in the next round at Crystal Palace.

Poor lad.
Gets recalled to warm the bench rather than playing at Wembley.

Got to be someone else who can cover. Jeepers, give the lad a break!

What HAVE we done to Cotter? One game & he's out for the season. The injury curse continues.

Has he been linked with the Town job?

Why not just play Spence on the right? We brought Smith back to cover the defence, just use him in the centre instead?

WHAT ? , why on earth do we do this sort if thing,it's unreasonable, unnecessary and pointless as well as showing a complete lack of human empathy ; shame he's to miss out on a Wembley experience .
I absolutely do not believe MM & TC would have countenanced such o recall !

get a grip chaps - I would be very surprised if this was done without consulting with him first.

If he is being recalled, I expect that he will play and as heavyweight said, I am sure they would have discussed with him anyway.

Luca Vega could have done the job last two games. It's not as if we are fighting for promotion or relegation.

I have watch Woofie play a couple of times for u23's and he has always looked good as he did at Palace. Just saying.

Does seem a tad unnecessary this late in the season with nothing to play for,

Can't recall Emmanuel, as his loan is with a league club. I hope Luke plays, I believe he's a real star in the making. I've predicted he will be our first choice RB by the end of next season, I'm sticking to it.

Does seem strange to recall him when he was going to play a cup final at Wembley when he's probably going to just sit on the bench. Don't think he'll be too happy.

Although tbh we should just play most the kids these games mean nothing to hardened championship pro's but to the youngsters they still mean everything, deubuts, chances to show what they can do etc

More than meets the eye with this. I'm a Bromley season ticket holder, and along with our two best players Woolfy has been dropped for the past 6 games. The politics around the club are ridiculous at the moment with the better players receiving pre contracts with league sides while Brom are pushing for promotion. Alan Dunne would have started at Wembley over Woolfy regardless of ability. Anyhow he's had a great 5 months down at Bromley and will be a much better player because of it.

If he has been recalled to Town when he had a chance to play at Wembley, then he should be our automatic right back for the final two games. Spence is a poor full back and much better as part of a centre back three.

@Butcherboy How do you know C-V and Chris Smith are injured? A genuine question, not having a crack at you
