Posh Chairman Reveals Town Contact
Friday, 22nd Jun 2018 09:25

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has revealed that Blues owner Marcus Evans recently contacted Posh director of football Barry Fry.

MacAnthony, responding to a Town fan’s question regarding possible Blues interest in any of his players on Twitter, said winger Marcus Maddison, who is understood to be interesting several Championship clubs, wasn’t the subject of the call.

In May, Town were among three Championship sides said to be keen on another Peterborough wideman, Gwion Edwards (pictured above).

In an earlier tweet, MacAnthony said he had rebuffed interest in Edwards from a Championship club, who he confirmed weren’t Sheffield United without giving any further clues regarding the identity of the suitor.

Nottingham Forest and Bristol City were the other clubs previously said to be interested in the 25-year-old former Wales U21 international, who has a year left on his contract at London Road.

New Town manager Paul Hurst has said he is looking to add wingers to a squad which he feels is "slightly unbalanced".

Anyone else think this seems like a remarkably unprofessional way to run a club?

SamWhiteUK I think that whole use of Twitter is a terrible way to run a business. You shouldn't make yourself available to ever entitled person who has an opinion. There is some value to keeping people informed about new products etc. but transfer business should be carried out in secrecy.
The media have all bought into twitter because it's an easy way to find information, companies feel pressurized to follow suit.

Agree unprofessional, but we have to get used to it. Donald Trump runs the most powerful nation on earth in this way.

Unprofessional or not, it is a way for us minions who love a bit of ITFC gossip to be included in an otherwise closed loop.

McAntony is obsessed with our club. Having conned us into buying Paul Taylor I think he thinks he has us on the hook

Remarkable really. Sounds like the same excuses as last year will be rolled out again. Too expensive fees and wages etc. That of course isn't the case. Whether Evans or anyone else likes it, that's the fees will be in line with the current market. Other clubs without parachute payments are getting the deals done at the same rate as we are quoted.

Do the Posh have anyone we might be interested in?

Can't trust what he says. His only interest is in promoting interest in his players in order to bump up transfer fees. Best to steer well clear unless one of their players comes out of contract or simply ignore his inferences that other clubs are interested and offer a take it or leave it at true value.
