Bialkowski's Poland Crash Out of World Cup
Sunday, 24th Jun 2018 21:06

Bartosz Bialkowski’s Poland crashed out of the World Cup following a 3-0 defeat to Colombia in their second Group H game in Kazan in which the Blues keeper was again an unused sub.

The Poles, who were beaten 2-1 by Senegal in their opening match on Tuesday, sit bottom of their group without a point and cannot now finish in the top two in the group even if they win their final game against Japan on Thursday.

Once-capped Bialkowski, 30, travelled to Russia as the third-choice keeper behind Wojciech Szczesny of Juventus, who has started both games, and Lukasz Fabianski, who joined West Ham from Swansea last week.

Meanwhile, former Blues boss Mick McCarthy, speaking ahead of this evening’s match, has said he believes Town will have trouble keeping hold of Bialkowski and that he’d try to sign him if he were to get a new club.

“I’ve been banging on for Bart, as we call him, that he’s the best keeper in the league and I’m surprised that somebody hasn’t come in for him before now, I have to be honest, I thought someone would,” McCarthy told talkSPORT.

“I think they may have a problem keeping hold of him now he’s in the World Cup squad, if he gets in he’s certainly going to get a bit more exposure. He’s only got a year to run on his contract.

"He’s fabulous. If I was to get a club tomorrow and I needed a keeper, I’d go and try and sign him.”

Bialkowski, who was interesting Crystal Palace in the last transfer window, is contracted to the Blues for another year and is yet to sign the contract which McCarthy said in January had been agreed with the keeper subsequently stating that talks were continuing.

Oh dear. Those comments from Mick are going to go down well on here - accurate or not...(!)

Anyway, sad for Bart that the experience is over so early. Even so, he might have a slightly better chance of being given the nod now that Poland have nothing to play for.

Surprised by Mick's comments... thought he'd go for ‘Gerks'...

Bart can now go on a well deserved holiday. Will he be with us next season? Let's hope so, but most fans I suspect are realistic.

Would love BART to stay just to prove Mick wrong. Agree that he's the best keeper in the league

And why would be remotely interested in what MM has to say?

Bart will hopefully sign his contract and MM will hopefully get a club with a huge transfer budget. That way we either keep Bart or we get £8,000,000 for him and a decent loan keeper. I'd actually prefer it if MM didn't get a new club at all, I'm fed up of being incredibly irritated by what he says and how he says it.

I think there will be more clubs interested in Bart than Mick.

Once MM gets a new job, most likely a rescue job in November or December, I suspect that we wont hear any more from him. In the meantime lets hope Bart commits for another couple of years but any offer of 5m or more from a Premier League club will most likely to see him sold sadly. However if Hurst is given a chunk of that money we could strengthen in a few areas.

Dino still Keeps coming up with awful words on his Twitter account about Ipswich fans !!!
He is so annoyed that nobody has offered him a club this summer, because he thinks he is the top man for a championship club !!!

It depends on what our new boss has to say to Bart when they meet up.
If Bart thinks the club is moving in the right direction then he might sign the contract.

Teams have been looking at him for some time now so surprised no one has made a bid already there are not that many clubs after him....... even Palace were only having a look .

These are pretty spiteful comments from McCarthy. By all means he could have bigged up the quality of Bart, but to unnecessarily put it in such terms as to almost state the club doesn't deserve him & to drum up interest in him from rivals is poor form from the former manager.
It's not so long ago when many of us on here were pointing out how much better an option Bart was over Gerken, while McCarthy kept rotating them as they were equal in his eyes. Bart's new contract might be signed now if McCarthy wasn't such a belligerent so & so.

Well said Len, Barts father dies so he goes back to Poland and when he comes back he can't get his place back because Gerken is a proper bloke ! Why, if Gerken is as good as Bart, is he not talking about taken Gerken? The answer is simple, They are not in the same league! So glad mom has gone hopefully Hurst will convince him to stay!

Bart has strong national team aspirations, he needs to be first choice keeper at his club to get in the squad. Playing for Ipswich didn't keep him out of the World Cup squad. He needs to be very careful with a move to a premier league team, because if he is not playing regularly he will be out of contention for Poland.
Mick is showing his lack of class and the reason he was unpopular at Town. We understand that managing our club is a job, but the manager needs to respect that supporting the club is a passion and not really a choice. I wasn't dead set against Mick, but comments like that make me really glad he's gone.

Britanniaman, what Twitter account? There is only a parody account of Mick on Twitter, something worth mentioning in case it is unnecessarily winding you up.

It's an incredibly annoying thing for him to say, but a totally honest appraisement. You can't really blame him for that, but what is more annoying is that he's clearly a lure for his former players, such is the team bond he creates (shame about the fan bond).

I hope that Poland plays Bart in the last match and he can prove to them that they should never have left the bench the first place.

The reality is that Hurst will have to sell a couple of players if he wants to spend on strengthening. Bart's been our best player for the last two seasons but we'll have to consider cashing in on our most valuable asset given only one year left on his contract. That said, I'd rather we sold our other World Cup player Knudsen.

"If I was to get a club tomorrow......"

Yeah, and that's as likely as McDonalds winning a healthy food award!
McCarthy, if anyone wanted you they would have signed you up by now. Face it buddy, the only person that rates you is you!!!.....Cuckoo, cuckoo cuckoo......

It is unlikely Bart will sign that new contract now that Mick has gone.

At least Bart got a few seconds in the World Cup (cameras showed him looking glum in the dugout) but have to say Poland were really poor, as for Mick's comments well he can't help himself stirring it up.

Nor can I Buster. MM is a pundit now so we'll have to get used to him but I doubt very much he'll get another managerial position after last season. His game plan and attitude wouldn't go well with many owners , he was very lucky at Town to have been kept so long!

MM is right about Bart and giving his insight on a world cup player. MM is only raising Barts profile in the media which will only help his transfer value which will benefit the club. You can be sure all scouts and clubs are already fully aware of his talent and contract situation. The only difference MM comments make is to perceived Barts transfer value by mefia and agents.
