Hurst Confirms Chalobah Deal Close to Being Finalised
Monday, 25th Jun 2018 11:39

New Town boss Paul Hurst has confirmed that Chelsea youngster Trevoh Chalobah is set become his first Blues signing on a season-long loan, perhaps as soon as today. TWTD revealed on Thursday that the 18-year-old had been at Playford Road for talks last Tuesday and over the weekend that the deal was likely to be confirmed over the next few days.

Asked whether he was close to making his first signing as the players returned for pre-season at Playford Road this morning, Hurst said: “We’re very close, in truth. Hopefully, maybe even today there might be some kind of announcement to make.”

Quizzed on whether Chalobah was the target concerned, he added: “I’ll be open with you, he’s the player I’m talking about.

“We’re just trying to finalise a few things and then hopefully, fingers crossed, no last minute hiccups, he can be part of the squad and the first signing.”

"Hurst says the England U19 international is very versatile: “Centre midfield or centre-back, I think in either of those positions he can be equally as good.

“He’s a very good player, very highly thought of, someone that in whichever position he’s in he’s very comfortable on the ball.

“Speaking to him, he sees the importance of this loan. If we do manage to secure that signing we’ll have fought off quite a bit of competition for him, so I think he’ll be a great addition.”

Sounds like a very smart loan signing to make, love how it looks like we beat competition too.

Interesting how Hurst didn't mind telling us who he was talking about, wonder if his honest approach to transfer news/gossip will continue?

Hopefully he will have the same kind of impact as the Fraser, Lawrence and (to a degree) Celina loan signings over the last 3 seasons.

Certainly better than hearing that 'i wouldn't be telling you if it was the player we're looking at'.

How refreshing to hear PH actually talk about the player, the competition to sign him and his attributes!!

Pressure for places indeed. This 'kid' (have you seen the size of him?) was given the chance to train with the full England Squad ahead of the World Cup and won the Euros with the U19s. If he comes he will be expected to play by himself, his Club and the England set-up.

Can see 1 or 2 of our back line and more in midfield being concerned about this. GOOD !

This has got to be very close to be finalised, surely they wouldn't have said so much if not. If this should fall through there would be an awful lot of egg on an awful lot of faces.

6 ft 4", two footed, excellent long range passer, quick, sees danger, has shown up well against hardened pros. Confident and a fun character. Looks an exciting loan assuming we get him over the line.

I assume this means Cameron Carter-Vickers is not coming back. That's fine as long as he goes on loan to a Premier League or foreign club and not one of our rivals ;-)

All the background on Chalobah sounds good and he presumably has spent some time with Dozzell, etc. Good to have another CB to keep Webster & Chambers on their toes.
