Town Expected to Be Bristol Rovers Striker Harrison's Championship Destination
Sunday, 22nd Jul 2018 13:37

Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke has confirmed that striker Ellis Harrison is leaving the League One club for a Championship side.

The Bristol Post expects that club to be Town ahead of Blackburn, who had previously been mentioned in connection with the 24-year-old. Reports elsewhere claim Harrison will move on for a fee in excess of £1 million.

Harrison, who was first linked with the Blues on Friday, was left out of the Pirates’ friendly against Forest Green Rovers yesterday with Clarke subsequently refusing to comment on why.

Former Wales U21 international Harrison came through the youth system at the Memorial Stadium and has played all his senior games for the Pirates aside from a short spell on loan at Hartlepool early in 2016.

Last season the Newport-born forward scored 14 goals. In total for Bristol Rovers he has made 116 starts and 88 sub appearances, netting 49 times.

Would be a good signing, but if Waghorn leaves we'd need another striker as well.

I suspect those criticising are not actual Town fans. Either way, we have always been more successful signing up-and-coming players than those who are on the way down in their careers.

Weve been linked with tons of players in the past including from league 1 or 2 whilst Mick was in charge that went elsewhere. We got Gwion in who other champs team wanted. If same here im feeling very positive.

Never understand any fan judging a player they have never seen or moaning it's a lower league: I've been saying it for years plenty of good players in league 1/2 just wanting a opportunity: he is the sort of forward we need Strong Pacey & gives us a physical presence which we lack: be great if we can sign 2/3 players before West Ham:

You will all be throwing your toys out of the pram after about the first month of the season, when its going wrong and we are struggling with in experienced players. Its going to be a long season. And l shall be here every step of the way lads.

Maybe Crazy but at least we are prepared to give the guy a chance, better than admitting defeat before we've even started. Like Michael Laudrup at Euro 92.

I will repeat my comments from a post earlier in the week.

Matt Holland came from a lowly Bournemouth.

Jon Walters came from lowly Chester.

Jamie Clapham was a Spurs cast off.

Mark Venus was surplus to requirements when he joined town.

John McGreal came. From Tranmere.

Mogga was considered past his best when he joined Ipswich.

Jermaine Wright came from lowly Crewe.

David Johnson came from lowly Bury

Jim Magilton was struggling to hold down a place in the premiership

The examples can go on but you will notice I have for a point chosen many examples from the Burley years, we have and can continue to be successful with the right manager in place taking players from the lower leagues, developing our own talent and picking up the odd player from the premiership or elsewhere. To be honest I hadn't heard much about any of the players above but we trusted George Burley.

Strong & pacey seems to be the type of striker that Paul Hurst wants for the style of play he favours; so this signing makes sense. From the limited amount of footage I've seen, he's direct & happy to take a shot at goal when in range, from either flank; again positives for how Hurst sets up his teams.
Whether Harrison is capable of scoring 15 goals in the Championship, against better defenders who won't give him as much time & space, remains to be seen though. Again from admittedly limited footage, his first touch & close control don't strike me as been top quality, but he's a good age & Hurst will have done his due diligence, which seems to be quite thorough, so quite hopeful.

Budgieplucker I like that list, did Marcus Stewart come from the Rovers via Huddersfield, surely you need strong athletic types with skill, and there's a lot of skill in finding the right ones,so I shall be attending a game or 2 this season excited for the first time in years

Haha, doesnt matter who we sell, buy, who's in charge, some people are never happy. Support the club, team and manager. Guarantee I'll hear loads of moaning from season ticket holders even on first game of season!!Sad

No Webster
No McGoldrick
No Celina
No Connelly
No Iorfa
No Waghorn ???????
Where are the goals coming from ?
Surely our defence also need replacements
All from league 1 or 2 surely that would be a Hugh risk
Two wingers signed to date
Worrying times ahead

We want players who are young, hungry and can improve, not the same old same old on a lucrative merry-go-round between Chamionship clubs.

Grey blue,
With respect,McD was injured most of the season as was webster.Celina And Iorfa were only bit part players as was Connelly.I personally don't think them leaving will make a vast difference,do you.
Just my opinion, but I respect yours.!

Signing younger hungry players from the lower leagues for sensible fees is part of the 5 point plan, so is playing attacking entertaining football - I'd rather this than the Keane and Jewell method of buying has been on huge wages who just want a final pay day.

Well we will see if we get him, By the way , he is coached at rovers by a certain ex town man Marcus Stewart so hopefully has learnt a thing or two from him. !!!!!

Greyblue; Webster and McGoldrick were fine players when fit. However, Webster played 25 times last season in the Champoinship, McGoldrick 22 (and scored only 4 goals). Waghorn is still our player and will remain so unless and until we decide to sell him. The others were loans of varying quality (few will miss Iorfa) who were always likely to return to their original clubs.

Doesn't seem prolific BUT hopefully playing in a better Ipswich side he will get more goals for us.
Who knows he could be the best next thing!!!
Hurst likes him so i'll Like him ⚽️👍🏻

Man the lifeboats crazyblue68 .... Liverpool signed Ian Rush from lower league Chester City .... what were they thinking .... the guy had only scored 14 goals in 34 games.

What about that rotund chap Grant Holt ... terrible lower league signing ... did nothing at Snorewich.

And then there's Gwion Edwards ... not set Posh alight? Did you not read the reaction of fans to his departure .... thought not.

Why does this mean Waghorn in going ? Completely different type of player and we need additional strikers?

Maybe, just maybe, it might possibly be Waghorn and Harrison up front for us? Not we sign this guy then Waghorn is definitely going. Jebus!!! Talk about drowning in negativity! And the season hasn't even started!!! I would hate to be living with some of the people who comment on here! Must be a complete drag on any party!! They're are a complete drag on here that's for sure!

I struggle to find anything wrong about looking at players like this. In fact it's a breath of fresh air! Instead of the likes of Nigel Reo-coker and the Lee Bowyer's. We've been wishing to employ more players from the lower leagues as they are hungry to succeed, instead of the usual suspects coming to the end of their careers. Yet still some are not happy. Can't please everyone I guess.
