Town Announce Squad Numbers
Monday, 23rd Jul 2018 16:41

Town have announced their squad numbers for the season ahead with new signings Gwion Edwards, Jordan Roberts and Trevoh Chalobah handed numbers seven, 19 and six respectively.

When you look at the squad as a whole you can really see how weak it is.

Lots of potential, but not too many stand out players really.

why is there no number 2, can't see us signing a new right back, unless it is given to another CB.

Quite interesting to see the squad slowly develop.
Shouldn't read too much into the actual shirt numbers but there are plenty of gaps still to be filled. PH is certainly forming his own squad with additions from lower divisions which is not a problem for me.
I seem to recall Norwich doing this very well a few years ago under the Lambert regime. Grant Holt who was always unpopular (polite) with us Town fans came from Shrewsbury and was seemingly drifting along as a journeyman. Much as it pains me to mention it but look how well he done.
I have a feeling this season could be very much work in progress and we may struggle. Just need to be patient for a couple of years and I think we shall be fine. Even if we temporarily drop to div 1 and I hope we don't, it will not be the end of the world for the bigger picture.

2, 5, 10 & 11 could be the shirts that PH still wants to fill. Let's hope so.

Help! I'm losing track. Can somebody tell me the positions (maybe nominal) that these guys fill?

Good to see a couple of defender's and forwards that will be potentially coming. Waggy as No9 too is great. Harrison to take 10 or 11 I am guessing, so one more forward which is exciting! Bradshaw would be brilliant considering his record in a poor Barnsley side. Would have been nice to see Josh Emmanuel given the number 2, so lets hope he makes that spot his own - likewise to Kenlock and that number 3 shirt!

I personally think we may surprise a few people this season. Lots of youth, bags of energy, experience where it counts, and a manager who seems to have a knack of getting more from the sum of the parts available to him.
I for one am looking at this season with plenty of excitement.

Totally forgot about Barry Cotter. What a debut he had! Hope he is more involved this season.

Four new signings about right. Five if Waghorn goes.

Hard to really read into squad numbers but if you were taking a stab in the dark Hurst is looking for:

2- a right-back
5- a Central Defender (Chelsea fans are saying Chalobah is much better in a holding midfield role)
11- a forward or winger
13- hope another striker.
22- an Argentinian superstar in the mold of Tarricco

Is there any point handing out the 15 or 24 shirts? Its not like we will get any use out of them.

I agree its not the numbers that have been allocated but the ones that haven't!

Clearly more signings expected and hope PH has on his wish list a loan or two like Connolly/ Fraser. Or perhaps he's happy with the youth and prefers signing his own rather than loans.
