Shrewsbury Reveal Bids for Nolan and Nsiala
Wednesday, 1st Aug 2018 16:17

Blues manager Paul Hurst’s former club Shrewsbury have revealed they have turned down a joint-bid for central defender Toto Nsiala and midfielder Jon Nolan from an unnamed Championship club, who we understand are Town, with the duo subsequently handing in transfer requests.

A statement on the Shrewsbury official site reads: “Shrewsbury Town yesterday received an offer for both Jon Nolan and Toto Nsiala from a Championship club.

“Town do not need to sell Jon and Toto and have made it clear that we do not want to sell the players.

“The Championship club made an offer for both players via text yesterday but this was below Town’s valuation for the players.

“Today both Jon and Toto have handed in transfer requests to the club. We will of course keep our fans updated with any further developments should they occur.”

A Blues move for Nsiala and Nolan has been anticipated since Hurst took over at Portman Road with both key players in his Shrewsbury side which reached the League One play-offs last season.

The pair, who are both 26, were initially recruited by Hurst during his time as Grimsby manager from elsewhere in non-league, having previously been with the Everton academy.

Nolan is contracted to the Shrews until the summer of 2020 and Nsiala until 2019.

Following his spell at Everton, Huyton-born Nolan spent time with Stockport County, Lincoln City and Wrexham (loan) before joining Hurst's Grimsby in January 2016 before moving on to Chesterfield that summer. A year later Hurst took him to Shrewsbury.

Nsiala, a DR Congo international born in Kinshasa, spent time on loan at Macclesfield and Accrington while with Everton before a spell with TDCS Dong Thap in Vietnam.

After returning to the UK, Nsiala, who was brought up in Liverpool from the age of 10 after a period living in Paris, joined Southport before playing for Hurst at Grimsby between 2014 and 2016. After half a season at Hartlepool he was reunited with his old boss at Shrewsbury in January 2017.

The Blues' move for Nsiala would suggest they have given up on their lengthy pursuit of Blackpool's Curtis Tilt with Town understood to have found the Tangerines, who were targeting £1 million for the former Wrexham man, intransigent and negotiations difficult going. The Blues were understood to have upped their offer to £700,000 within the last few days.

Tilt, 26, is believed to have handed in a transfer request in order to push his club into doing the deal but Town would now appear to have moved on.

Agree with Alexeasty99 that Nolan is a very good footballer but Tilt would seem a better player than Nsiala.
If Donencian is coming as a potential right back then surely we need Tilt aswell

We've tried experienced players, however we can't afford the ones we really want. Other teams have successfully bought players from lower tiers and have had success. Why can't we? I certainly don't want to end up like QPR, and other teams with massive fines and transfer embargoes. The only way we can spend more on players is by the fans turning up at all home games. It,s your choice but I know where I'll be at 3pm saturday, will you be there tractorboy?

Perhaps if we are bidding for Nsiala Blackpool will move on the fee a bit for Tilt. It will be interesting.

I am a bit surprised to see us linked with any central midfielder given the number of players we have there. Downes, Nydam and Dozzell looked good against West Ham. Skuse is about to return. Hurst wants Chalobah to play in midfield. Ward can play in the centre. Adeyemi, Bishop and Huws might make a return one day.

Tilt was obviously the preferred target and I think we would have got him if we'd offered 8-900k. Missed out for the sake of 1-200k. It's ok it's the Ipswich way... #MEisfaultless

Please get Tilt - he looks a proper beast and is very impressive in the ball supporting attacks.

Maybe we're after Tilt, Nolan AND Nsiala? A back 4 of Danacian, Nsiala, Tilt, Knudsen. Sounds good to me!

Either you're on here just to fish for bites or your heads gone.
Where did Bart come from? Oh yeh Notts county
Where did Waghorn come from? A very poor rangers team who valued him at £250,000
If you genuinely believe what you're saying then at least back it up with a decent argument

N'siala was one of the main reasons Shrewsbury did so well last season. He has it all ; pace, power, guile, good in the air. Hurst knows him as a person as well, unlike Tilt.

Am I a cynic or why else would Shrewsbury go public if not to alert other teams so as to up the price?

Its Notts Forest who have made the joint bid. Not us!

Would like to see these two come in. Am liking our interest in lower-league players who have lots of potential and want to prove themselves at a higher level.
TractorBoyTommy: please do one.

I personally think we'll get the 2 Shrewsbury lads & Tilt. It's obvious that Tilt wants to join us after putting in a transfer request so I think the deal will get done, he's been PH number 1 target so why give up on him now. Unfortunately I think Waghorn will leave the club so the cash is there to buy them, I said from day 1 to my lad that we should get Nolan & Nsail, COYB!

So the beast from Shrewsbury and possibly Tilt as well, neither of them will sign to sit on the bench, does that mean Chambers position is seriously in danger now.

Obviously played the pre season games as we had no one else BUT could it happen!

Sorry @Trac70 but i was not on here "spouting off" about a done deal for Tilt. My post said for ME to stop quibbling over 250k and just pay it or we won't get him. If you log in and click on my user id you can read it again.

I am not a budgie. I lived in chelmsford as a kid and supported chelmsford city (home and away). When i moved to ipswich i have had season tickets. Still waiting this season because if ME does not back the new manager then i will not spend my money (mentioned in previous thread and discussed with Cat).

Ps when i was a kid and money in my house was tight i was given a secondhand norwich kit. And i wore it. The following season i was given a secondhand newcastle kit.

More excitement in the last few weeks than the last few seasons under McCarthy. It highlights the fact that we were always just a few players short of a strong squad. Despite some good signings we also recruited that utter rubbish who offered nothing.

Deeply concerned that we continue to purchase lower league average players and that the majority of Town fans on here seem happy with that????

If we build a team full of average lower league players we become an average lower league club in my opinion!!!! Be careful what you wish for.....

TractorBoyTommy added 08:08 - Aug 2
@Wooly I raised that exact concern in my comment and am currently on 54 dislikes! Unfortunately the majority of these town fans on here are wearing their blue tinted glasses on and cant see the bigger picture, its all well and good buying these young, hungry lower league players but what happens if we go on a 5 game losing streak, heads will drop. All I said was we need experience as well to compliment.

Up arrowed TBT's last comment (or at least part of it)
I do agree we need experience as well and the majority of our experienced midfield is still relatively thin due to long term injuries. Yes, we have the likes of Andre, Flynn Tristan etc but they are still relatively inexperienced.
