Hurst: No New Developments on Loans In Or Out
Monday, 13th Aug 2018 11:57

Blues boss Paul Hurst says there have been no new developments on loans either in or out of the club over the weekend.

Hurst has said that he is keen to send some of his younger players out for spells - Aaron Drinan is already at Sutton, Pat Webber at Braintee and Chris Smith at Aldershot - having spoken to Tristan Nydam about the possibility of going on loan, while Barry Cotter is another likely to be allowed to make a temporary move.

Speaking at the weekend Hurst said he had not decided whether Andre Dozzell might be among those made available.

“No, too early days. I’ve not had any calls on that, personally at least. But I’m sure there will be as we progress,” he said.

The Town manager says it’s important that players go out at a level which will be useful for their development.

“And ultimately who is interested,” he said. “I said to the players, if a National League South team comes in for Tristan, no disrespect, but that’s not going to be something that we’ll look at.

“Each one will be looked at individually and we’ll try and make the right decision. This isn’t about trying to bring money back into the football club to then spend elsewhere or something, this is about looking at their development and seeing if we can get them playing at a good level that will benefit the player and ultimately us as a football club.”

He says that there is similarly nothing new on incoming loanees with two further additions currently in his sights - a centre-half and a striker - although ideally he would like three but for the limit of five loan players in a matchday squad.

In addition to Trevoh Chalobah and Tayo Edun, who are with the Blues from Chelsea and Fulham respectively, Janoi Donacien is currently on loan while he awaits confirmation of his permanent leave to remain in the UK. Once the paperwork is rubber-stamped - which could happen at any time - his move from Accrington will become a £750,000 permanent switch.

“No, not over the weekend, that’s been left aside and we’ve been concentrating on this cup game,” Hurst added. “But there’ll still be work going on and conversations to be had throughout the coming days.”

He says he’ll be looking both at loans from the Premier League and also those from the EFL who could ultimately become permanent signings.

“Possibly, I’m open-minded,” he said. “I don’t want to put a set stipulation and narrow the market to say we’re only going to look at Premier League loans, we’ll just do whatever we feel is best and look at all options.”

Premier League loans being considered is a positive in my view. I would prefer to see us going for someone like Danny Batth, seeing as he can't get into the new expensively assembled Wolves first team, as the centre half loan option, than the lad from MK Dons. We have a tough run of games coming up & with 1 point on the board we will need a few leaders out on the pitch to get us through it & hopefully keep us out of the relegation zone while the new players/style beds in.

We certainly need a bit of experience within the squad now to help bring the young lads on.Lets just hope we can get a few players in asap.

Danny Batth would be a good shout actually. We may end up sorting something for Tilt too you never know.

Agree with Len. To add, I hope we're scouting outside the UK (and lets include Ireland) too. We have a pretty good history of scouting outside the UK but I haven't heard much on that front since Hursts appointment. Anyone know if he favours UK markets or dabbled outside the UK before? I know we sign non-UK players playing already in the UK but not the same as actively scouting outside the UK.

Big mistake if Dozzell goes out on loan...

If and only if Nydam, Dozzell and Downed were to go out on loan personally it'll have to be a league 1 club at least. I think it'll be an insult to the 3 if they were to be in any lower league. They are way better than that. I appreciate that it hey may not be 100% fit especially Dozzell with his injury last season but I would expect to at least have them on the bench. I am a bit annoyed that the lads have not had this opportunity yet. I know it's early doors with the season but they don't get fit if they don't get a look in. They are the future of the club and dhob part of our 5 point plan and to gain cat a academy status. A lot of fans are pinning their hopes on these 3 progressing with Ipswich. We have to be careful otherwise we could have a similar situation as Ben knight. They will go elsewhere and that's no good to us. It's either that or is our academy really that good, hence the reason we are a cat b academy.
