Hurst: Too Early to Make a Decision on Jonas
Thursday, 13th Sep 2018 16:04

Town boss Paul Hurst says it’s too soon to offer left-back Jonas Knudsen a new contract, the Dane, whose current deal is up next summer, having said he’s keen to start talks regarding extending his Town stay.

“At the minute, no,” Hurst said when asked whether he had spoken to owner Marcus Evans about a new deal for the 25-year-old.

“Would I like him to stay if he continues to do well? Then yes. But I’ve spoken to Jonas and said at the minute it’s too early to make a decision and that’s where I’m at with it really.

“Yes, he’s done well but he’s got to continue to do well. He’s another one who shows a good attitude to things, so things point generally positively. But I just want to see it over a longer period than what it’s been so far.”

He's reserving his position it seems ; has he got his fingers burned having implemented maybe a few too many changes already ? It certainly looks from a distance as if he's at last ,at the very least , and thankfully , pausing for thought !!
JK is a very much improved footballer since his arrival : the nonsense about ' long throws ' is just that !We are ,it appears, pretty ignorant yet about exploiting lots of situations ,can't get people in the right positions at the right time , and at either end of the field .Its not only throws, but free kicks and corners we fail to manage ; many chances to do lots of things ARE created but material advantage has not been taken this season .DONT focus on the provider ,most of our players are trying hard to CREATE , but closer integration and coordination is missing !!

alternatively it's a hesitation because this is yet another slot he wants to fill with his own player thus continuing a nigh-total overhaul of what he was given on arrival. Team certainly needed freshening up, and a number of players wanted/needed to move on, but I still worry as to the radical scale/pace of change.

What you need to bear in mind that Jonas has just returned from a world cup, reportedly had Villa, Boro and Stoke looking at him and is not going to settle for anything less than being one of the top 2 or 3 earners at the club.

Do his performances in a Town shirt justify that? Possibly not. He's a decent player but not one worth breaking the bank for. Hurst is absolutely right to wait and allow Jonas to either be a player worth pushing the boat out for or proving himself to be someone we can replace at a much lower wage than he will demand.

We cannot be held to ransom, Jonas' stock is high and his agent will ensure that they use other clubs interest to look for a deal that may not work for ITFC as a business. He's nowhere near, performance wise, to the contract he's likely to be asking now.

Yet another reason to doubt this mans capability to manage at this level. Fill your team with League 1 players and that is the level you will find yourself at.

shut up Swn98, is there no limit to your drivel .Things may not be great at the moment they may not be great for some time to come under Hurst , but McCarthy had to go. Get over it, its sickening seeing you and the few cronies you have, looking on hoping Hurst fails, the only good times for you now is a poor result for the club you claim to support, you really are a sad little person.

Sorry but I'm not a Jonas fan. I used to be, when he first joined the Club, and was willing to give him time to adjust to the English game.

However my opinion of him has gradually changed to one of doubt. The final straw was his comment in the wake of McCarthys departure, when he stated Town fans “ treatment “ of Mick was “wrong, and that he would now have to review his future at this Club”.

Well Mr Knudsen , perhaps Hurst is now assessing YOUR future at this Club, based on his assessment of your abilities as a left back, which frankly are nothing special.

Knudsen is no-where good enough to be part of the top 6 Championship team we aspire to be - look at Cresswell and Mings - vastly superior and the standard we should be seeking....

Whatever happens with Knudsen - it's not Hurst's fault. Too many players have been allowed to have their contracts run down by the Owner. Some understandable, some not. Knudsen cost a reasonable fee and is worth at least that same fee in resale - so whether the manager decides he wants him or not, this should have been sown up at the start of last year - unless he's already on a mammoth wage (which i suspect not). It's been clear from the last 10 years that the Owner has say on contracts, so better off asking him and leave Hurst to manage the team

Annie I think you,l find it was approx 350,000£s so we should make a profit at Xmas on him, pretty much looks like he's going

ArnieM added 11:56 - Sep 14
Well that's still cheap. So yes we will make a profit. I agree and wouldn't be surprised if Hurst had someone else up his sleeve as a replacement.

Dirty sorry to inform you i am a very happy person even more so when i read the rubbish you post.
When will you wake up and realise getting rid of MM and replacing him with a First division manager surrounded by first division players ain't going to get us out of this league you deluded fool.
