Nash Linked With Manager's Job at St Patrick's Athletic
Saturday, 13th Oct 2018 20:55

Blues U23s coach Gerard Nash is reportedly a candidate for the vacant manager’s job at St Patrick’s Athletic back in his native Dublin.

According to The Irish Sun, Nash, 32, is one of six candidates to have spoken to the League of Ireland Premier League club, who are managerless following the departure of Liam Buckley.

Former Ireland international Kenny Cunningham, ex-Cork City and Drogheda United boss Paul Doolin and Harry Kenny, who had a spell as St Pat's assistant manager, are said to be among the other contenders for the role.

Nash, whose U23s side are currently top of the Professional Development League Two South table, has been in his current job at Town since 2016 having previously been in charge of the U18s.

The former central defender joined the Blues as a 15-year-old but saw his playing career end at 19 after only one sub appearance for Town and a handful of games on loan at Hartlepool and Southend following a succession of serious knee injuries.

He subsequently joined the coaching staff at Playford Road and has progressed through the ranks.

Would Hogg join him? Massive lose if it happened just looking at result and end of last season.

Be a huge loss if he was to go

Give all the under 23 manegment a pay rise, and make it decent. Incentive schemes are always good. Always make every effort to retain your better staff. Why employ educated staff and tell them what to do. Employ educated staff so they tell you what to do!! Makes sense.

Would love to see him in the dugout at Town so if this is part of the journey then good luck. We'll miss him though.

Please stay here, you and Chris Hogg are doing great with the Town U23 team, and also did a wonderful job alongside Brian Kluug at the end of last season.

Maybe Hurst wants his own people in?

Think if Hurst wanted his own that would have happened when he arrived.

I'd hope Nash stays but the call of home might be a lure.

Surprised to read he played so few games, thought he played more!

I hope he does not leave, doing a qreat job here! Who could blame him if he does go, must be so upsetting so see youngsters going out on loan and players who are no better going into the team from lower leagues. Also the lure of going home might be to tempting.

All that said, really hope he stays, could be a future town boss in the making!

Dissboy, I'd suggest reading Kieron Dyers thoughts on that

I think Hurst has done enough to invite criticism in the short time here but is attitude to youth is (on the whole, not exclusively) not one of them

Good luck to him. Would be a huge loss if he went. Was impressed with him in the dugout with Klug towards the end of last season.

Who is surprised at this interest ? - people in the know will be aware of the quality in what he is doing - far too non appreciated by Hurst in my opinion, but interest will surely be there from better men than Hurst.
MASSIVE LOSS TO OUR CLUB IF HE LEAVES, he and Hogg will be on the radar of Clubs, and justly deserved. Serious potential as a duo.
Our Club should appoint both the above with Burley/Butcher involved too - we would then be on the right track again going forward.
Hurst isn't going to do the business for us. Surprised ? - no I'm not.

Why should ITFC appoint serial losers like Burley and Butcher, we need to look forwards not backwards

Burley serial loser have you seen his win percentage even with 2 years in premier League? Hurst is on 1 win in 13 no way he going to level out to near 50 percent probably be sacked with just the 1 win by xmas

He is doing such a great job with the under 23s would be a shame to see him go at this point. He has helped players like Danny Rowe get lots of game time and confidence he should at least see the team out a bit until the season is over because currently he is doing a great job and at this point a new manager could shack things up a bit.

He's obviously done well with our U23's but that's probably as far as he can get unless he leaves, if PH left would Nash or Dyer be more likely to take a caretaker role?
Nash is the more experienced coach however Dyer has the top playing career and is the big name....

Hope this is not the start of many of the Acadamy staff leaving the sinking ship. I would swap Klug Nash Hogg Dyer for Hurst and Doig anytime.
