Updated: Lambert Pays Respects at Leicester
Monday, 29th Oct 2018 12:03

New Blues boss Paul Lambert has visited the King Power Stadium to pay his respects to the five people killed in Saturday’s helicopter crash, who included Leicester City owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.

Srivaddhanaprabha, Nursara Suknamai and Kaveporn Punpare, who were members of his staff, pilot Eric Swaffer and his partner Izabela Roza Lechowicz all died in the crash which followed the Foxes’ 1-1 draw with West Ham.

Since Sunday morning fans have been laying flowers and tributes at the stadium.

“First and foremost it’s tragic, a real, real shock,"Lambert told Sky Sports. "I live not too far from here myself.

"I think what has happened here has been incredible, the running of the club and what’s happened with winning the league.

“But I think everybody knows, when you lose lives, football is nothing. This is a major, major shock to the people of Leicester as well.”

Asked about Srivaddhanaprabha's legacy, he added: “As I say, I’ve stayed up here for the last few years and this football club grew, the city grew and I think when Leicester won the title it became a worldwide known football club. It was all down himself and everybody worked here. I just can’t believe it, it’s a shock, it really is.”

Truly tragic event and a lesson in how a club and chairman can have such a great impact on a city, meanwhile most ITFC fans would not know our chairman if he sat next to them, other than finding their wallet empty! Nice touch from Lambert.

Such a tragic event, not just for the club there but football as a whole.

This shows the level of respect some of the owners of clubs have earned. The stories of his interactions with fans and public around the club are good to hear in this modern world where some owners probably never see the fans outside of the stands.

Unbelievably sad. A man who made the impossible, possible. Won't ever forget Leicester winning the league in the way they did.

Did so much, not just for Leicester City FC but the city itself.

A sad day for football 😞

100% credit to the guy. He could be forgiven for just sending a condolence message to LCFC considering the new appointment and pressure he must be under here to get a hold on our club ASAP, but top bloke to see there are more important things to do in life at this time. Teaches perspective.
May they RIP and condolences to LCFC , bereaved family & friends & those affected. Thoughts with Glen Hoddle & family for a swift and full recovery too.

It's inspiring reading all of the well wishes people from all over the world have sent to Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha. He was truly loved by the city. He wasn't just an owner, he donated £2m to the Leicester Children's Hospital charity, £1m to the Foxes Foundation for community causes and £1m to Leicester University's medical department. He was a part of the city's life blood. I wish we had the same kind of love and adoration for our owner. Vichai showed it can be done and football doesn't need to be as divisive as it sometimes gets. This is a huge loss for Leicester. Devastating.
