Lambert: Time is Pressing On, We Have to Start Winning Games
Tuesday, 22nd Jan 2019 13:13

Boss Paul Lambert admits the Blues have to start winning games soon with the season pressing on and Town bottom of the table, seven points plus goal difference from safety.

The Blues, who have 18 games in which to save their Championship status, were beaten 2-0 at Lambert’s former club Blackburn on Saturday and face another of his previous sides Aston Villa at Villa Park at the weekend.

“Football can kick you in the teeth when you are down like it did at Blackburn at the weekend,” he told the club site.

“That’s the game though. You can’t get too high or too low. You just have to go again and we will be doing that in training this week and on Saturday.

“The games are coming thick and fast and time is pressing on. We are trying everything we can to turn it around here but we have to start winning games.

“One hundred per cent we have to do that. We have to keep everyone onside and do everything we can to build up some momentum."

Nothing new here in what Lambert is saying it's been the MO for the last few months and we haven't won games the one's we have have been fortuitous which really says it all...every game needs to be played like a Cup Final the only problem effort might get us so far but lack of quality will by and large make us come up short.

Not giving up hope yet.

It appears to me that Sears doesn't really want the ball. He's scared in possession. But the last time I saw an Ipswich player play with REAL confidence was v Newcastle when Emyr Hughes smashed in the third goal! Welcome back Emyr!!

We hear this every week from some one stating the bleeding obvious. Tell the players.

We don't look like getting anything from away games and we've got 9 home games left.
We don't look like getting anything from any games against the top half and we've got 8 left against the current bottom half, 5 of which are away from home.

We need minimum 7 wins and a few draws.
We're done.

Whatever happened to "in Lambert we trust"?! Is football management the only profession that complete inexperience and zero qualification knows better than a seasoned pro?

May I suggest a change of on field leader??
5 months to late. But I also understand he's impossible to drop. Stripping of the captaincy is a definite no, no.
This until of course we're relegated with the lowest ever points total, and poorest season in the clubs history.
Maybe and only maybe, then we can see what a poor leader and even worse player he was.
Until then, we let him get on with the great jobs he does.
I right proper bloke that Chambo.

Sears was playing left wing/midfield when he scored the 2 at home against Bristol City. Cutting in on his left foot. I am not PL has played him down the middle accept for the Reading away game?

Defo should try judge at num10 though and bishop right mid, maybe Lankester left mid/attack. Not sure he know knows where the best fit is for Quaner, Keane and Judge..

We basically have to have better results than Bolton, Reading and Rotherham in the last 18 games.

NONE of them are ripping it up at the moment, surely we can put a run on and get up the table - Millwall did it and they aren't out of trouble yet. One team out of us 4 will put on a run, surely we have a better squad, Manager & support than the other 3?

Villa aren't any great shakes, we just need not to give away silly pens & goals... their fans will be restless and maybe we can nick one?? We live in hope.

Lambert is now a hostage to his own PR. He kept telling us we were great, giving everything, looking like a really top side and just needed a 'little bit of help' to get out of this mess. Well the help has arrived and he was at least right about it being little. So now we should be overcoming all before us, playing top stuff and picking up points left right and centre. And now, all of a sudden, he's noticed we're running out of time. We all desperately want this to work but I'm afraid there's been a whiff of BS around for some time.

alfromcol, suffolkboy & saxon - instead of taking cheap shots and generalising your posts to the wider audience, why not name the poster/posters who your ‘sniping' at, least that way everyone knows where they stand and ain't thinking “you talking bout me!”. You never know, you might get a sensible debate going or at the very least a bit of respect. Just saying (lol)

It takes time for players to gel together and we haven't got time now. I would love to see us winning games but we have to face it at the moment this is just not happening. All managers seem to make strange decisions at times and PL is no different. Supporters just have to keep supporting PL with his positivity but he is right results need to improve or we are going down.....a horrible thought especially if my locals win promotion, ugh, tearing my hair out.
We all have our thoughts about who should be in and who should be out but I can't imagine PL is looking at our comments and saying ooooh that's a good idea, I'll try that out next game. It comes down to any grit that our players have especially giving away penalties unnecessarily as Elder did against Blackburn. That was a turning point in the match. So come on chins up and keep calm!

I love Freddie, but if we are relying on him to be our main striker to keep us up, we are doomed.

The article in yesterdays E A D T had it about right. We should accept the fact that we are going down and start to plan now for next season, treat the time as an extended pre season, bring along the players who we know are still going to be here and phase out the loanees and the ones out of contract. I would give it until after the Norwich game and if we are in no better position start making plans

Alfromcol. Who,s the experts??
Just supporters of the club they love.
With their own and sometimes shared opinions.
Most always up for a debate, occasionally heated.
It's what it's all about yes?
Football we love it...

To stand any realistic chance of avoiding the drop, we need to approach every remaining game - home and away - as a cup final. That means being far less passive, playing and pressing with intensity all over the pitch; getting tighter to opposition players, winning second balls, playing at least 10 yards further forward and being relentless in not allowing opposition time and space. Think how Rotherham played us in recent second half.

True PL needs to have a dispassionate and honest assessment of our midfield options; but whoever plays, there are many football basics that we need to be better at.

Personally i'd like to see Lambert start to consistently pick players that are most likely to be playing for us next season (like Harrison, Lankester, Skuse, Downes, Bish, Doz, Emmanuel etc) if/when we get relegated so that they can start to gel as a team over the next 18 matches and then really hit the ground running right from the beginning of next season.

Chopping and changing the team every week and picking loan players who don't really care about the club isn't going to stop us being relegated and isn't going to help build a team capable of getting us back up at the first attempt next season.

Skuse and Sears are both not good enough on the ball FACT. Sears though has done well in a poor team scoring goals and at least has pace. Skuse has been shocking all season MMs way of playing allowed for lack of quality but since he went he has painful to watch. My worse nightmare is to see the line up first game of next season in league 1 and Skuse starts. Forget about bouncing back if he remains un dropable.

I'm sick of people defending Freddie saying he's playing out of position. He isn't lethal enough at this level. Wasn't in the squad at the end of McCarthys tenure and now it seems he's the player everyone is looking at to get us out of a hole. Even when he plays up top he needs 5 chances to score once
