Blues Linked With Tranmere Striker Sunday, 17th Mar 2019 09:40
Town are reportedly showing interest in Tranmere Rovers striker James Norwood, currently the highest scorer in the top four divisions.
According to the EADT, the Blues are keen on the 28-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer.
Norwood has netted 27 times for the League Two side this season having bagged 23 last term when they returned to the EFL via the play-offs following three years in the Vanarama National League. He scored the winner in the 2-1 victory over Boreham Wood in the final.
Eastbourne-born Norwood, who is 5ft 9in tall, was a youth player with Brighton, Crystal Palace and hometown club Eastbourne Town before breaking into EFL football with Exeter, with whom he made three starts and one sub appearances.
During two years with the Grecians, he also spent time on loan in non-league at Sutton United, Forest Green Rovers and Eastbourne Borough, before joining the Green Devils on a permanent basis in 2011.
Following his release by Forest Green, the seven-times-capped, four-goal England C international joined his current club in the summer of 2015.
Speaking about his future earlier in the season, Norwood said: “I’m not too sure. I love the club, love the lads, love playing for the gaffer. My head’s here. I’m here until the end of the season, and I just want to be a part of something at this club.”

sounds and looks decent, and could be well worth a punt. but think we also need a target man type of striker also. striker wise we still have freddie (bad injury) jackson, harrison, and loans of quaner and keane. so to add to the squad we will need to trim it first, obviously quaner will go back, we may offer keane something? be interesting to see what lambert does in the summer. coyb
Hang on Dissboy!...if I condemn them they turn out to be good players!?! - where have you got that from? sounds like your looking for an argument but hey ho don't let me get in the way of the wave of optimism that is strangely sweeping this website currently.
timmyh just trying to balance out the unfounded negativity over the signing of players we know very little about!! i know nothing about him other than what i see read or hear others say about him, but from his showreel he looks the business, nobody else on our books has a showreel to compete!
I'm just going by previous history...have to admit I feel it's all too early to be going talking talk about possible signings in March after what has happened, I've got my eyes on Evans and financially what will go on in the summer and then onto what happens thereafter on the pitch with Lambert as this will be the real litmus test for him...I don't think I'll comment on any post match games from now until the end of this season as I feel the players in their hearts know the club is relegated and somewhat of the weight has been 'lifted' hence somewhat improved performances.
If he's on a free, then forget it. He will get much better offers elsewhere. And before the downvotes and me being negative comments. Has our owner all of a sudden changed his spending pattern?.... No thought not.
For the people on this site poo pooing this guy and comparing him to Harrison and Jackson this guy has scored 50 goals so far in his last two season way way more than the other two so how does anyone know what he can do? Do I think we'll sign him probably not as we always seem to lose out to anyone else because our owner is reluctant to make us competitive with other teams. Before people laugh my Evans gripe off lets be honest in his time we have gone from 8th under Magilton to league one and still no one can tell me why a successful businessman who makes money in every other business he owns he is here knowing he's losing money! And there's still people backing him whether we have another option or not.
And @clint_eastwood what are you expecting? What prem or championship players to come here on average league one wages? You do realise we will be in league one right?
I like Baltatchas back story on him, I am torn between tut tutting and being impressed. I think the Beat and Warky would have gone with him back in the day.
The issue isn't who's coming in the door. But who's going out. Yes we will lose all loaned players. But the quality youngsters going, in what numbers, remains to be seen.
We'll definitely need a goalscorer bringing in this summer..really like the look of Jackson,he's got pace and runs himself into the ground, but we'll need more..not too sure Harrison is a 20 goal man and we're without Freddie until next year.
I hope our owner realises last summer's awful mistakes & doesn't try to scrimp & save in this department or dither..amends need making for last summer's poor transfer decisions..Big time.
Biggest thing about transfer window is we have a manager that people want to play for. So could be interesting summer this year and if we keep main core of the team we have now it could be a fantastic season next season..
Let's look at the players we'll have come the end of the season. All loan players return to there clubs. We'll have a freshly signed Chambo. Freddie still recovering from a serious injury and won't make the new season start. Add Lanks to the Freddie treatment table. A host of youngsters who by and large have no 1st team experience. I expect 2 at least of the best youngsters to leave, to help balance the books. I think the need for a goal scorer, is just as important as a team to go with him.
Doesn't sound like the target man we need to lead the line & we already have 2 contracted strikers who have scored plenty of goals in Leagues ! & 2. How do we know he will do any better?
Get it done please Marcus. We're crying out for a natural goal scorer. I'd rather go for Norwood than pay silly money in wages for Will Keane. Even though Keane does look useful I just worry about his injury record.
