Leeds Handed 2,000 More Tickets For Final Day
Tuesday, 16th Apr 2019 19:18

Leeds United have been given an additional 2,000 seats for the final day of the season game against the Blues at Portman Road on Sunday 5th May (KO 12.30pm) following meetings involving the club, the police and safety advisors.

Town say they have been inundated with requests for tickets from Leeds supporters with the game potentially seeing the Whites return to the Premier League.

The West Yorkshiremen were handed an initial allocation of 2,000, which led to protests from their supporters, who were given 5,000 seats for the corresponding game last season.

“We have been aware of the demand from Leeds fans to attend the game and we have had communication from the EFL on the matter but we felt it wasn’t something that could be discussed until we were relegated,” Town club secretary Stuart Hayton - who previously held the same position at Elland Road - told the official website.

""“We needed to ensure that we could cover the demand to attend the game from our own fans first and that could have increased if our fate went down to the last game of the season.

“Having met with the Safety Advisory Group in an emergency meeting today and spoken to the police, it was felt that it was beneficial on safety grounds to allocate the upper tier of the Cobbold Stand to Leeds fans.

“We sincerely apologise to our supporters for the inconvenience caused in having to be moved to other parts of the stadium and hope they understand the reasons for this late decision. It’s not one we have taken lightly.”""

Cobbold Stand season ticket holders or supporters who have purchased a match ticket in the stand will be asked to choose a seat elsewhere in the stadium with details sent to them in the next few days.

Leeds currently sit second in the Championship, four points behind leaders Norwich and three in front of Sheffield United in third.

Right decision reached eventually, although if their promotion is in the balance it will still be a few thousand short.
This is the decision that should have been made before tickets went on sale eight days ago.

The problem with not giving them more tickets is they will end up all over the ground and in with a Town fans, may as well contain them in one area.

Don't see the problem, surely we'll all be hoping for a Leeds win anyway??!!😂

.....seriously, can see the need to delay the decision. Our fate may have still been in the balance, however unlikely!

Personally I wouldn't want any Leeds fans anywhere near our ground let alone in it.they cause trouble every single year without fail. They should of been banned years ago and I for one will never go to any game involving Leeds ever again

Just give them the whole cobold stand for christ sake. The money we could make would be very very helpful.

This is a money grabbing terrible decision.
I am 100% in agreement with scooby. Every year we end up rebuilding our ground once the Leeds fans have gone home. Some took our seats home as trophies last season. Others behaved inappropriately as they always do to spoil the day. This will be no different. Can you imagine the carnage if we take points off them to stop them going up?
I recall all too vividly the last time I went to Elland Road. This was when Alan Lee scored to equalise late on which effectively sent Leeds down to div 1. All hell broke loose.
Some Leeds fans were animals (and that is very unfair to the animal kingdom). They attacked our supporters (me included) and those who sat in wheelchairs!!
Not all Leeds fans are retarded by any stretch and there are some very decent folk among them but a larger than small % of them are and for that reason I will never travel to see Leeds away again.
To give them extra seats is a mind blowing decision based on greed.
Moan over.

An Ipswich win that could send them in to the Play Offs
would cause potential numerous problems for the
Club and Police -

Would have stuck with their original allocation

Well that's f*cking brilliant!
I wanted two tickets but am only allowed one in case I sneak a Leeds fan in. We're therefore not going to bother spending our money at Portman Road!

For clarity with wording of my original
Post.
I referred to some Leeds fans as being retarded. I was certainly not meaning to reference people with mental problems or learning difficulties. I was actually meaning the behaviour of some nothing more.
Apologies in advance if I have offended anyone. It was a bad choice of word by myself.

Don´t care about the extra allocation. Just want us to beat Leeds. Don´t like them.

@cakeman - keep digging, petal. Leeds fans are no worse than any others. People in glass houses etc

I know what you mean BlueySwede. But if it meant them finishing above the Carrot Road Crew then I'd accept a draw or something!

Well said BlueySwede ...

Anyone recall how they behaved at Elland Road when Alan Lee's equaliser effectively sent them down in 2007 ... just google a few match reports if you've forgotten ....

Hopefully we'll put them in the play offs.

If I were a Season Ticket holder I am not too sure I would be happy in being asked to move to accomodate Leeds fans, however, I can understand the Club's need with relegation confirmed, and making sure all Leeds fans are contained in one area. It makes perfect sense to me overall.

I personally think that although it is the last game of the season, some of our fans will be inclined to stay away because the Leeds fans are always a threat in terms of behaviour, and is it worth the risk in apointless game to us anyway ?

I will not be there for that reason alone - being truthful.

Chill out cakeman.
Everyone knows you're a nice fella 😁
I can't remember what year it was but remember getting off the train, walking under a bridge and getting pelted with bottles and bits of bricks.
We won 1-0, I think it was a cup game.
Not the friendliest of fans.

...... should read:- 'season ticket holder in the Cobbold Stand'.

Before someone assumes I am not one.

I was hit by a coin in 2007, pelted by rocks in 1990 both at elland road...animals. Even giving 4000 seats they will be all over our stadium. The club should have stuck to its guns. Money talks. Big city pressure, I'm surprised that the game hasn't been switched to elland road so more of their fans can get in! Ridiculous

And I wonder how many seats they will tear up this time.

Westy added 00:38 - Apr 17
A good example of how the Club favours away supporters over home. The Police presumably can handle this yet can't handle a sensible kick-off time for the Ipswich v Norwich game.

ALL they've done is double the trouble

So rather than give them the extra tickets you would rather they were drunk and causing trouble in the town and round the ground because they can't get in. Having said that they are not as bad as people make them out to be. I have been in the Punch & Judy when they have been in there and there has been no problem whatsoever.
