Bishop Out for Three Months, Nsiala and Lankester to Miss Start of Season
Thursday, 18th Jul 2019 17:08

Teddy Bishop faces three months on the sidelines with a knee injury, while Toto Nsiala and Jack Lankester will also miss the start of the season due to injury, the club has confirmed.

Bishop twisted his knee awkwardly during the friendly with SV Meppen at the Interwetten Cup and there were fears that the 23-year-old could have suffered a cruciate ligament injury of the type suffered last season by Freddie Sears, Grant Ward and Ben Morris, all of whom are expected to be sidelined for between nine months and a year.

However, it’s been confirmed that the midfielder suffered medial ligament damage and is facing three months out.

“Bish is wearing a brace at the moment and with the injury he has, we are looking at three months or so recovery time,” Town head physio Matt Byard told the club site.

The injury is a blow to Bishop, who had been fit for the longest period since his 2014/15 breakthrough season until Sunday. However, he may to some extent be relieved that the problem isn’t quite as severe as feared.

Nsiala, 27, will miss the first few weeks of the season having torn his hamstring in the Fortuna Dusseldorf game at the Interwetten Cup, while Lankester, 19, has suffered a recurrence of the back problem which saw him absent for the final months of last season.

“Toto tore his hamstring in the game against Fortuna on Sunday and he will certainly miss the first few weeks of the season,” Byard added.

“Jack had a stress fracture of the back over the second half of last season. He has been progressing well and played in the games in Germany but he’s had a bit of a reaction.

“It’s quite common with the type of injury Jack has had to get setbacks along the way. It’s a case of letting things settle down for now but he’s another that won’t be ready for the start of the season.”

Why? To release him we would have to pay up his contract anyway!

Awful bad luck. Time to get in some temporary loans to cover the start of the season? We need to hit the ground running. C'mon Mr Evans. This is a serious situation and needs addressing now.

More concerned about Toto than Bishop. We have enough midfielders to cover him and unfortunately he's never going to be a player we can rely on. We really need an experienced centre back to add cover for Woolf and Chambo unless Lambert starts Donacien there.

This is absolutely gutting

We have to sign a senior central defender or two. Its by far our weakest part of the team, no cover at all really. We needed one before Nsiala's injury anyway. At the moment for Burton away we might have a central defensive line of Kenlock, Ndaba, Woolfenden and Emmanuel. That's just not good enough. Donacien can play centre back but we are just so light in defence. Got to sign a couple of experienced defenders!

It's all been bad news coming from the club for months now , need a marquee signing to show our ambition and as a statement to other clubs . Feel we could drift along as normal blaming injuries and finding our feet in new league until it's too late , this squad has not got enough quality or depth for a whole season. Best players Judge ,Huws , Bish ,Dozzell all massively injury prone who have been out longer than playing over last few seasons. Need a good start or will be another long season

Time to just get rid of bishop. He's just a liability. Next headline will be 'HUWS out for 6 months after freak accident brushing his teeth'

The bad luck with injuries continues, I feel sorry for Bishop clearly a very talented player, however, his body is just not strong enough to cope with the physical demands of playing consistently. As for Toto these things just happen. What I can't understand is how Lankester has suffered the same setback again when the physios have said its quite common - why have they not been ultra careful!

Silver lining is we have to find solid replacements for the start of the season asap, our defence is looking very thin indeed.

Really gutted about Bishop though, really felt this would be a big season for him, will be a huge miss.

Surco72 don't think you can call Judge & Dozzell injury prone. Judge suffered a horrendous freak injury from a very tough tackle by Hyam when he was at Brentford. The recent wrist injury was from an awkward foul.
Dozzell had a bad injury at the start of his career that can happen to any player.

Who was the last player we ever had that recovered from a serious injury and then went on to play consistently for the club? Not a trick question, I am genuinely curious? Are we doing something wrong on this front? Will Huws play a significant role for the club - all season? Will Freddie make it back?

Come on guys, given the knock, Bish having medial and not cruiate is fantastic news for him and us. 3 months versus 13 months. We have plenty other midfielders....currently at least !

Lankester will be a star, but probably would need to work his way back into the 1st team anyway, so the one real worry for start of the season is Toto who was immense at back end of the season. Given our midfield options, expect to see Skuse start at the back (in place of Chambers) alongside Ndaba for game 1. Assuming Ndaba comes through, then Chambo in for game 2, with Wolfy the option.

Of course it is still possible we could get in a league 2 also ran to compliment the back line yet !

As I said about bishop the other day. I'm afraid he has to go. Physically not up to it. The area is clearly week and you quite often find the athlete is never the same and they regularly struggle. With this in mind and the clubs financial situation we cannot afford to carry people like this. Unfortunately football like a number of other industries is ruthless. People like this become a financial burden.

Is this bad luck or are out training sessions during ore season too aggressive? just seems odd to me that we seem to suffer a lot of injuries. It doesn't help having players who seem prone to injury. I doubt it comes as too much of a surprise to anyone that Bishop is injured again. Yet, I wish the lad a speedy recovery.

What is now certain is the need to urgently strengthen the squad. PL said no more than two loans - so some much needed permanent additions plus no more than one further loan is required. CB is urgent. We need another striker as well and arguably a winger.

Well that turned into a really beneficial trip to Germany then with 2 defeats and 3 injuries!

What is going on with our training regime? On a different note, same subject. I was listening to some guy( a journo i believe) on talk sport speaking about Sheffield utd, then when went on to mention McGoldrick, Chris Wilder apparently spoke to MM and got to the bottom of why McGoldrick was always injured, wonder what that was? have a sneaky feeling may not have been physical with McGoldrick, but who knows! I know this much, i am sick of our injury situation.

We really need to get some extra bodies in to cover this constant flow of injuries. Mr Evans, it's over to you. Do you want to attempt to go for promotion, or are you happy just to let it slide further?
