Cotter Joins Chelmsford on Loan
Thursday, 26th Sep 2019 20:57

Blues right-back Barry Cotter has joined Vanarama National League South Chelmsford City on a month’s loan.

The 20-year-old joined the Blues from Limerick in January 2018 and made his senior debut in Mick McCarthy’s final game in charge, the 1-0 victory over Barnsley in April of the same year, and made a big impression on fans.

The former Republic of Ireland U19 international, who also operates at centre-half, came on as a late sub in the 4-0 win at Reading later the same month but hasn’t featured for the first team since and wasn't included in the senior squad which travelled to Germany in pre-season, although retained his squad number, 37.

In August, Cotter joined fellow Irish youngster Aaron Drinan on trial with Swedish club GAIS but returned the following week while the striker moved to the Gothenburg club on loan.

Cotter, who is contracted to Town until the end of June 2021 with the club having an option for a further season, could make his Chelmsford debut away to Eastbourne Borough on Saturday.

Make or break time for young Cotter at Town I think.

Looking less like Messi by the day. Good luck to him, hopefully he grows for it like KVY did between his failed trial and eventual signing for us.

@Terry, you are correct, although I suppose I'm not entirely wrong either, although I should have said Neymar

Got off to a flyer & looked a really confident attacking full back or wing back option. I guess we didn't get the chance to properly evaluate his defending and teamwork qualities before the plaudits rained in. Clearly there have been issues with his application and attitude, as more than 1 manager has hinted at, so I can't see a future for the lad at Ipswich, certainly not while Paul Lambert is manager anyway.

Harry Cotter puts on the sorting hat in the Great Hall and it chooses Chelmsford. Well that wasn't part of the script surely!
