Town Issue Section 6 Safety Message and Reiterate Anti-Racism Stance
Wednesday, 23rd Oct 2019 13:34

Town are asking fans not to move to Section 6 of the Sir Bobby Robson Stand if they haven’t got tickets for that area and have also reiterated their stance regarding racist and other offensive or anti-social behaviour.

The club say fans have been gravitating towards Section 6, these days the noisiest area of the stand, at recent home games despite their designated seats being elsewhere.

“The noise and atmosphere generated in Section 6 and in the Sir Bobby Robson Stand in general has been fantastic,” Town secretary Stuart Hayton told the club site.

“We have had reports though that some supporters are moving across into Section 6 when they have not got a ticket in that part of the stadium and that is causing some safety concerns and annoyance for fellow supporters who can’t get to their own seat.

“We ask supporters to remain in the seat they are allocated because the safety of all fans is of paramount importance to the football club.”

Hayton has also restated the club’s zero-tolerance policy regarding racism and other offensive chanting with complaints having been received regarding chants at Luton earlier in the season and also more recently.

“The football world has pushed out the message again this week that racism and any other offensive behaviour or comments will not be tolerated in the game,” he added.

“Our fans are among the best behaved in the country and have been for many years but with recent events in Bulgaria and in the FA Cup game at Haringey, it’s timely that we reiterate Ipswich Town has zero tolerance to any anti-social behaviour and we will act accordingly if we need to.”

The Stamp It Out text number, 07834 439229, is available for all supporters to discreetly report any incident they feel needs attention, allowing the club to investigate.

It is time then for non-designated standing with rail seats. Defrag the stand; get the vocal support into one place in the middle. Tt won't affect me as I am now too old but perhaps this is a proper case of TWTD

The issue here is with the 'stand managers' who need to get better controls in place. The last home game had two stewards at the bottom of the entrance checking tickets but once into the stand it was a total free for all. It took a polite word with one of the stewards to move people who had chosen to accomodate themselves in my seat.

As an aside the front rows of the stand always appear empty, I would be interested to know if the club sell these and if they are infact where the 'wandering' fans should actually be sitting.

I'm not really sure the warning with regards racism is at all necessary. I can honestly say I've never heard any racist chanting in 25 years of following Ipswich

Electric cattle prod should sort it out in section 6.
Regarding any racist chanting or anti social behaviour, always good to remind people but glad we're known for being better than most, and rightly so.
Funnily enough, and electric cattle prod will sort that out too.

Following certain games last season usually ones with reduced prices i felt it necessary to email the club re fans safety in the SBR LOWER SECTION 6 caused by fans over exuberance when celebrating events on the field, whilst i received polite emails back basically stating they would review the situation at the end of season debriefs, it has only got worse and IMO a fan or fans are going to get seriously injured at some stage.

I must confess to remembering monkey chants as a teenager ( late 80's ) in the north stand.
Like it or not, it happened.
Fortunately those days of racism are long gone.
Totally agree with the standing suggestion sotd78 but am also, probably too old now to be able to keep up!
I'd be knackered if I bounced around like I did back then!
I'd definitely be in the lower west stand with all the ex north standers.
Churchmans for me these days.
It's got a comfortable bar for this old git.

Just the general lack of control being experienced, mainly in away sections, now spreading to home sections. Until safe standing becomes available supporters in ALL sections at all grounds should be made to SIT in the allocated seat or be ejected from the ground.
