Warnock Linked Again But No Contact With Town
Wednesday, 4th Mar 2020 15:03

Neil Warnock is again being linked with the Town manager's job with the Blues claimed to be close to ending current boss Paul Lambert’s time in charge, however, we understand that as yet there has been no contact between the club and the veteran boss.

According to various reports, owner Marcus Evans’s patience is running out following last night’s 1-0 defeat to Fleetwood with Warnock said to be the man being lined up to take over, as was also speculated at the weekend.

However, TWTD understands there have so far been no talks between Town and Warnock despite the former Cardiff City and Sheffield United boss knowing Evans well.

Rumours that Warnock, who has previously said he plans to retire this summer, would be a target should the Blues look for a new boss previously circulated just after Christmas prior to Lambert signing a four-year extension to his contract, which runs to 2025, on New Year’s Day.

Warnock has been spoken to about taking over at Town in the past, most notably after Roy Keane’s departure in 2012, and we understand is interested in the role should it become available.

Quizzed on the links with Town job in December, he told The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT: “I think I get linked to everything, all managers do, don’t they? I think that’s how it is at the minute, they’re all talk and everything and you just don’t know.

“But, like I say, if the right thing comes up, I’m not really bothered what it is, I just want to enjoy myself to the end of the season really.”

While Lambert's contract, signed only two months ago, has five years left to run, break clauses were included in the deal, one of which states that the Blues boss would receive a greatly reduced settlement if he were to be fired at the end of the season with Town having failed to make the top six.

A good clear out is indeed needed but who ever goes we know(unless a new manager has any sense) who will be wearing 4&8 the immovable problem duo, this has been one of the clubs biggest mistakes letting these two so called footballers laud it over the club and pick up high wages for basically continuing to let the club down.

I would take warnock til end of season, then see him become advisor to evans as to the next permanent boss based on what he has seen. Too many blue spectacle wearing fans on here. Butcher great player but awful record in management, burley, been out of it for too long.

How can Fleetwood ,Coventry ( no ground ) Wycombe , Oxford, Peterborough be where they are in the league? Is it because they have better owners who plough millions into the club ? No they don't !!! Idon't see how Evans is fully at fault . He doesn't go out and buy /loan the players . he may well say he can afford ( or not) them but all the other clubs just mentioned ( and many more in Div 1) manage to find players for not much money or wages relatively . The management team /recruitment and the players are to blame for most of this mess . Where did Dembele at peterborough come from for example ?......... Grimsby for peanuts . You DON'T have to spend millions if your are ggod at your job

Who is actually putting these 'links' out there with Warnock?...it just sounds like newspaper talk and that's it, so they say 'again' so the first 'link' went away after the furore of the Blackpool game?

It's the wrong time to do this.

Lambert should be allowed one more season. He brought pride back to our club and should be given a chance to reset the clock and go again.

Gary White please. At the end of the season ? Done well with limited resources.

Burley..Burley and Burley

Hes here, he cares, he has known us when we were good so knows the "ITFC" way

It seems a no-brainer to me even if its to go in and see what needs properly sorting (he knows already)

Sounds like Lambert would have to finish the season for the break clause to be used...

IT's the overpaid players that are at fault.

Whether there's any mileage in the Warnock story - time will tell.

But whether it's Warnock or A N Other, the resources at their disposal - responsible for getting us where we are - will remain the same, with insufficient time available to assess individuals and implement the fundamental changes needed post PL to refloat a rapidly sinking ship. That option has, realistically, gone. True PL's departure will placate some, and a new face will reignite hope. But the challenge now awaiting any PL replacement is massive. My inclination would be to stick it out with PL and regroup in the summer, having spent the intervening time identifying potential replacements. However, sadly, ME's past recruitment and decision making record leaves me with little confidence that he'll get it right. Ideally we should be hoping for a far more significant change at the top of our beloved, but currently very poorly, club.

Managers contracts don't include failure clauses.
If Evans wants to end Lambos reign, just weeks after both parties agreed on a long term plan extension. It's going to cost Evans big money.
Hurst walked away with a sum that set him up for life.
I would imagine this will cost Evans 2 or 3 million, if it were to happen.
2 or 3 million would have guaranteed promotion if spent in the last window.

Will be sad that it didn't work out for PL, as I genuinely feel he has the best intentions at heart and changed things off field for the better following MM. Things haven't gone our way for too many reasons and some of the blame must lie at PL's feet.

I know Hindsight is good but Scott Parker would have been a good choice when he was available as he seems to have done a good job at Fulham, I do believe he had an interview down here.

Evans is going to lose a lot of season ticket holders next season if we carry on like this, and that will cost him more money than paying up Lamberts redundancy payment.
I could not even bother to go last night even though I am a season ticket holder, I just had that gut feeling things were not going to be good

I am not a contact lawyer but it seems to me that this clause would only come into effect when we can mathematically not get into the playoffs.

This is absolutely laughable ! We've been here before with McCarthy, yeah he came in ‘shook' the club and players up and thereafter, like his style or not is irrelevant, pushed the club in the right direction ! Now here's the relevant point, Evans didn't back his manager and was more than satisfied ( documented prove of this ) for the club to slumber in the Championship ! Anybody in business realises ‘static' behaviour lends itself to eventual ‘decline'! The fault lies with Evans! He's a Trojan Horse who needs removing !

Couldn't make the game but just watched the highlights
Looks like we could of had three or four goals there but yet again got nought
Only one word to describe the defending one on one for they're goal PATHETIC
That was Sunday morning hangover defending nobody else to blame and not for the first time
He's the rock of our team (stationary)
I've seen better defending in the Suffolk Vets league and at least we admit to being over the hill!

I'll still be suprised if this happens, I don't see Evans cutting loose until the summer.

Warnock might see us into the playoffs and give us a chance, his record of promotions cannot be argued with but he is not a long term solution.

My heart says give Lambo team, many of us said how hard tjis season would be and whilst we hoped to romp back to the championship I think lots of us knew it wouldnt be that easy. As a club we have always given managers time and I think thats right, they need it to make their mark but the game has changed 18 months is what you get to make that mark these days.

My head is less sure, we must acknowledged the good Lambo has done, bringing the fans back, reconnecting the club to the fan base, playing some of young players and making sure others get out on loan to develop, pushing Marcus to get the place tidied up, the general tarting up of F(sic)PR was much needed, its basic pride and whilst maybe only a detail does speak volumes (dress for the division you want to be in and all that), finally signing a proper right back!

All that will of course be quickly undone if we continue to plummet down a league which the longer we remain in, the more it sucks out of the club.

On top of that whilst yes, we knew if being honest it would be a scrap this year BUT we should with this squad (even though many do not convince ATM) at least be solid playoff bets and right now, were nowhere near.

Aside from the cost of paying up his 5yr contract what do we have to lose by twisting now? Nothing, I'd rather be looking for a new manager in the Championship on the back of a playoff run under Warnock that staring down the barrel of another season in L1.

Even if we change I fear its too late but I think in this instance rewards outweighs risk.

On a short term contract he would be a very good bet but long term I'm not so sure as he said he wanted to retire at the end of this season or thereabouts. What I like about him is that he can motivate and get the very best out of players. So i would definitely give him a chance. Not every bodies cup of tea I accept that...🤔

Do it right now. It's far from to late as three or four wins and we are right back in the hunt for the play offs at least and then anything can happen. The only sure thing is that lambert has no clue what to do.
