Youngster Hughes Agrees First Pro Deal
Friday, 12th Jun 2020 09:16

Young midfielder Tommy Hughes has agreed his first professional deal with the Blues, a one-year contract plus the option of a further year.

The 19-year-old academy product, who joined his hometown club aged seven, made three sub appearances for the first team during 2019/20, two in the Leasing.com Trophy and one in the FA Cup. In 2018/19, he spent time on loan at Bury Town.

Hughes, who in March last year netted a goal for the U18s from his own half of the field, will put pen to paper on his deal at the start of July.

Meanwhile, contrary to a report earlier in the week, defender Alex Henderson hasn’t been handed a professional contract by the Blues.

However, the centre-half has been been offered a third year as an academy scholar.

Excellent little player. Saw him at Millwall for the U23's last season.

Really good news; he looks a real talent & a likely first team player over the coming year.

Give him all Skuse's match time next season.

Will benefit him & us.

Why hasn't he been offered a pro contract before the age of 19. Were the not too sure about him until now ?

That is the concern Roy. If he is showing that much promise, why hasn't a bigger more successful club such as Brentford or Huddersfield stepped in over last few months

ITFCsince1973 he is showing promise at a lower level which is why a club at a higher level haven't approached him.
He has a still a little way to go physically but looks a good League 1 talent to me

MaySmith. That's not how the modern game works unfortunately.
The big boys see potential, get him for as little as possible, loan him out.
Only then, when he hasn't shown he can step up....they dump.

Good luck Tommy lad. Won't be hard to break into the first team at the moment, so see you sooner rather than later. Ignore managers advice and just play football the way it should be played. Best of luck.

He's a decent player but apart from Dobra we haven't got any young players that we can get excited about. We use to produce players that played in the top flight now we are struggling to find young players to play in div one which sums up our club at the moment.
